Friday September 29, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Dexter was 14 years old when I frist tried a leash and harness on him, he is 15 now. He is one of two cats that accepted it. In fact, when I get the leash and harness out, he gets so happy he starts meowing. When out, he just can't stop going, and keeps the leash tight all the time.
Today's Quote: “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.” - Alexander Fraser Tytler

Another picture of the new cat spot when I opened it. Avensby still is a bit shy to explore it - staying on the house side of the window while Margarita on the left, Elly-May in the centre and Andi on the right enjoy the sunshine.

Wednesday September 27, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Andi on the left, Dexter on the right, Avensby looking out the window. This was a brand new cat spot that is now gone to make way for the new catio. Andi and Dexter are checking it out after I opened the window to it for the the first time, while Avensby is a bit cautious about heading out.

Today's Quote: “I think the most important quality in a birdwatcher is a willingness to stand quietly and see what comes. Our everyday lives obscure a truth about existence - that at the heart of everything there lies a stillness and a light.” - Lynn Thomson

Saturday September 16, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Andi, taken at the same time as yesterday's picture. This picture brings out the personality of Andi, which is unique. Unlike her 4 siblings from the same litter, she is very much like her mom. Serious and stable. She is clearly the matriarch of the family, and though very friendly and never starts fights, never gets easily upset, she is definite in her actions and has a calm and cool demeanor. In this picture she is focused in watching what I'm up to while taking her picture. Many times I've seen a cat acting goofy around her, and she just looks at them exactly like this, and the other cat soon starts to wither and stop.
Today's Quote: “In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats." - English Proverb

Friday September 15, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Andi, who will be 15 years old in approximately 2 weeks, under the Manitoba Maple tree enjoying a beautiful day while Norton looks on from the cat pen. I can't take Norton for outside walks as he panics if there is a noise, but he actually shows no interest in going outside. When I go to the door, he moves away from it.
Today's Quote: "Our lives are like islands in the sea, or like trees in the forest. The maple and the pine may whisper to each other with their leaves ... But the trees also commingle their roots in the darkness underground, and the islands also hang together through the ocean's bottom." - William James

Thursday September 14, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Avensby using the step on the side of the cat tree as a resting spot. This is inside the new catio or cat sunroom I made for the herd, or more properly - the clowder.
Today's Quote: “I would tell you what you want to know if I could, for you have been kind to me. But I am a cat, and no cat anywhere ever gave anyone a straight answer.” - Peter S. Beagle

Wednesday September 13, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Avensby can get into a mood, and when she does, she gets this look on her face, and more often than not, she lies there with her arms stretched out like this. Also, I like the way her paws match the blanket.
Today's Quote: “Clouds suit my mood just fine.” - Marie Lu, Champion

Tuesday September 12, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Dexter out on a leash under the cat tunnel to the cat pen. Dexter is so happy to be out and about, and you can see how tight the leash is as he pulls me around. By the way, today's quote doesn't count for Dexter.
Today's Quote: “Seeking book reviews from friends and family is like walking your cat on a leash – theoretically possible, but count on sharp claws and a lot of hissing!” - Caroline Hurry

Sunday September 10, 2023 Pic of the Day.
This is the catio or cat sunroom I made for the cats. Looking from inside my place to inside the catio. Andi is on the chair, and Norton is in the basket on the floor. The cat tree that used to be inside my place is to the right. The cats are very happy with this room for them.
Today's Quote: “By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.”
- Helen Hunt Jackson, September

Saturday September 09, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I was outside taking Andi for a walk, and Dexter was unhappy with me for taking Andi first. You can see him staring at me in disapproval.

Thursday September 07, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I very much enjoy looking back to these pictures with the mom cat and her kittens in late 2008 and early 2009, but there is some sadness as two of the kittens and the mom have passed away, and the three remaining kittens are 15 years old in about a month with expected health issues and general slowing down. Andi the kitten again on the left, and her mom on the right which I named Mumma-Puma. The cat in the middle, the Lynx Point Siamese, is Felemur, and he was just shy of 20 years old in this picture. He passed away about 6 weeks after this. I remember the time finding Felemur - a stray kitten - in the spring of 1989. That is getting to be a while ago now.

Wednesday September 06, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I found another Andi picture when she was a kitten, here beside the woodpile with her mom. This picture was taken the day after I first saw them. The mom had 5 kittens at the time. The barn they lived in burned down and mom and her kittens suddenly became homeless just as winter was coming on. According to the vet I took them all to, Andi and her siblings would have been 6 weeks old.

All things Andi lately. The previous two days I've shown recent pictures of Andi in the yard. Here is a picture of her when she was about 11 weeks old in January of 2009.

Out for a walk in the yard. Andi rubbing a tree while I try to not get eaten by mosquitos. I cannot think of a worse year for mosquitos than this summer.

Another picture of the setup for the cats. On the left is the new catio, or cat sunroom. On the right is the tunnel leading to the cat pen under the big Manitoba Maple tree.

Friday September 01, 2023 Pic of the Day.
We've been working away at the yard, and I wanted to take a picture of the tiny house I live in with the catio on the left and the cat tunnel to the cat pen right behind the tree. The cats are quite enjoying this setup.
