Another picture from August 2003. Cornelius and I had been together for a year. In August of 2002, he was found on a gravel road deep in corn country very sick. By this point, he had really started enjoying life as a pampered house cat.

20 years ago, almost to the day. Cornelius was sleeping like this, and I went and got the dog boot scraper and layed it down beside him and took the picture.
Today's Quote: "On the deepest level, problems such as war and starvation are not solved by economics and politics alone. Their source is prejudice and fear in the human heart - and their solution also lies in the human heart." - Joseph Goldstein

I was looking back to last year, and found this picture of opening day of the cat pen. It is still used constantly by the cats after 13 months. It has changed a bit on the inside with shelves and upper level areas to get away.

Saturday August 26, 2023 Pic of the Day.
This picture captures Andi's character quite well. Outside for a supervised walk on a nice day. Andi will be 15 years old in a couple of weeks, and if you look to the Tuesday August 22 picture, you can see her at 11 months old. Notice she looks the same, but the happy innocent look in the eyes has been replaced by the wisdom imparted by a life of many years in a physical body in the dark realm of earth.
Today's Quote: “Even the greatest of miracles do not resolve the problems of this earth: all people who find physical healing eventually die. We need more than miracles. We need a new heaven and a new earth, and until we have those, unfairness will not disappear.” - Philip Yancey

Friday August 25, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I live in a tiny house with my cats, and felt they needed a sunroom or catio. I have not finished it, but it is getting there, and the cats are using it - and really like it. The tunnel on the other side of the house leads to a can pen I've shown before, but it is small, and I wanted the cats to have more room and a variety of places to go.
Today's Quote: “Cats were put into the world to disprove the dogma that all things were created to serve man." - Paul Gray

Thursday August 24, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I was hanging up laundry, and if you look carefully, you can see Cornelius on the railing of the laundry deck waiting for me. After we were done with the laundry, we walked down to the beach on Aylen Lake and spent the morning there. Cornelius just loved being by the lake and I would say this was the happiest time of his life. I'm happy he got the chance to be there and enjoy the lake, docks and beach the way he did. He was a feral cat from deep in farm country, and big water was something he would never have imagined when he was young. This picture also shows the quintessential feel of fall on the Canadian Shield.
Today's Quote: “So lovely was the loneliness of a wild lake.” - Edgar Allan Poe

Tuesday August 22, 2023 Pic of the Day.
I found a picture of Andi when she was 11 months old. Andi is one of those cats that although she has aged, she basically looks the same now at 1 month away from being 15.

Today's Quote: "You will know them by their fruit. Grapes aren’t gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles, are they? In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit." - Matthew 7:16-18

Saturday August 19, 2023 Pic of the Day.
This day, 2007. I had just made these steps and brought Felemur out to sit on them so I could take a picture. They looked better after a good wash as the mortar had left a white dusting all over the marble. We lived on marble bedrock at the time, and I mined these marble stones from the backyard.

5 years ago today my orange tabby cat Leon passed. A really nice cat that I miss. He is with his sister when they were 6 months old trying to drink from the same water bowl.
Today's Quote: "In communism, the individual ends up in subjection to the state. True, the Marxists would argue that the state is an ‘interim’ reality which is to be eliminated when the classless society emerges; but the state is the end while it lasts, and man is only a means to that end. And if man’s so-called rights and liberties stand in the way of that end, they are simply swept aside. His liberties of expression, his freedom to vote, his freedom to listen to what news he likes or to choose his books are all restricted. Man becomes hardly more, in communism, than a depersonalized cog in the turning wheel of the state." - Martin Luther King,

Ran across this picture from 3 1/2 years ago. Andi looks great here.
Today's Quote:“When, at the age of twelve, at the time of the Russian revolution, I first heard the Communist principle that Man must exist for the sake of the State, I perceived that this was the essential issue, that this principle was evil, and that it could lead to nothing but evil, regardless of any methods, details, decrees, policies, promises and pious platitudes. This was the reason for my opposition to Communism then — and it is my reason now. I am still a little astonished, at times, that too many adult Americans do not understand the nature of the fight against Communism as clearly as I understood it at the age of twelve: they continue to believe that only Communist methods are evil, while Communist ideals are noble. All the victories of Communism since the year 1917 are due to that particular belief among the men who are still free.” - Ayn Rand, “Foreword,” We the Living

Wednesday August 16, 2023 Pic of the Day.
Today is the day 12 years ago Cornelius passed. A very sad day for me. It is the day I remember all the cats I've had that have moved on. My cat remembrance day. Cornelius sleeping after a day on the beach at Aylen Lake, Ontario, Canada. He lived life with dignity and courage.
Today's Quote: We now return our souls to the creator,
as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness.
Let our chant fill the void,
in order that others may know.
In the land of the night,
the ship of the sun,
is drawn by the grateful dead.
- From The Egyptian Book of the Dead

Happy Cornelius Day! It is now 21 years ago to the day we found Cornelius. We were out for a long motorcycle ride on a hot, dry summer day, stopped for a break, and a very sick cat came out from the corn and literally passed out under the motorcycle. Not knowing what else to do, we put him in a backpack, turned it around so it was on my chest and took him home. A 45 minute ride home. Cornelius changed me forever, and I'm grateful for that. He is long gone now, but never a day passes that I don't think about him. I've had over a 100 dreams about him since his passing that I've recorded, and just thinking about him causes my body to react. I had a saying for Cornelius and the way he handled life: "Cornelius - King of all that is".
Today's Quote: "The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion. A great roar arises in your heart, the roar of freedom.”
- Osho

21 years ago tomorrow, we found Cornelius on the side of a road in the middle of farm country. He was sick, in fact nearly gone. He changed my life totally. I miss him, but am so grateful for the time with him from August 15, 2002 to August 16, 2011. He is enjoying the time at a cottage on Aylen Lake by Algonquin Park. He loved going out in the morning to the lake and watching the boats, fish and waves. He was quite amazing in that you did not need to have him on a leash - he would stay close and behave with courage and dignity.
Today's Quote: "With One Spirit Medicine , you will discover how to dance between the visible, physical world of the senses and everyday tasks, and the invisible world of Spirit. You will be like the graceful jaguar, the balancing force of the rain forest who serves as an intermediary between the seen and unseen worlds as it journeys beyond death into eternity." - Alberto Villoldo

Today's Quote: "The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater." - Frank Zappa

Another picture showing how popular the toy fox was with the cats. This time with Elly-May, who seems to match the colours of the fox quite well.

I had forgotten about this. In 2021, there was a stuffed toy fox that didn't sell for Valentine's Day that eneded up in the bargain bin of the pharmacy I worked at. I walked by it for days, but nobody bought it. It went down to under $5, so I bought it for the cats. The cats really liked it. Here is Avensby hanging out with it in the top of the bookshelf.
Today's Quote: "I was an only child. Growing up, we moved a lot, so I didn't have any close friends. So the animals I was around as a child - dogs, cats, and horses, and stuffed animals - became my family and friends. The only strong bonds I made as a child were with animals." - William McNamara

Andi had a bad fall when she was about 6 months old chasing a bug on a 2nd story balcony back in 2009. Up until last year, she was nervous of heights. Now, since I've been taking her for walks, she is slowly starting to enjoy going up trees and small heights. She is still cautious, which is good for a nearly 15 year old cat.

Over the past couple of months, I built a new catio for the herd. It is not done, but it is now useable. These four are enjoying it a day after the grand opening, which in this case meant the opening of the window to the new catio from the house.

Chessie is long gone, but was such a sweet and gentle cat.
Today's Quote: "And I think the answer is that we are, in reality, terribly frail animals. And we don't like to be reminded of how frail we are—how delicate the balances are inside our own bodies, how short our stay on Earth, and how easily it is ended." - Michael Crichton, Sphere
