tuxedo cat watching crickets in country on beautiful October day

Sunday December 17, 2023 Pic of the Day.

This was taken October 22 of this year. Other than the Black Walnut trees, the trees still had most of their leaves. This was a beautiful day, and Andi was really enjoying watching the multitude of crickets jumping around - there were a huge number of them everywhere in the yard for around a week or two in October this year. I've never seen so many in my life before. With every step, I was probably walking on a dozen at least. It reminded me of the time in April of 2007 when I lived in an area of Central Ontario Canada surrounded by literally thousands of acres of forests, lakes and marshland, when it became very warm one morning, and there were so many thousands of small frogs in my yard that I could not walk through it. If I had tried to walk in the yard, I would have killed large numbers, and I could not do that. Just looking at the yard, it looked like it was moving there were so many leaping frogs. It was gone the next day, and I've never seen anything like it again - even the next spring in the same area. In that area one summer day, late in August I think, there were so many dragonflies that it was surreal. In any direction, the air was filled with them - I'll make a wild guess of maybe 10 per cubic meter in every direction including up, with nowhere visible without them. Went for a walk down the road, and they were everywhere.

Today's Quote: “The crickets usher in a softness that smooths the harsh edges of a day now passing. And if their song does not somehow lull us to a softer sleep, then we have become deaf to things that matter in the process of listening to all that does not.” - Craig D. Lounsbrough

Picture Taken: October 2023.

tuxedo cat under red light therapy light face closeup

Friday December 15, 2023 Pic of the Day.

I took this picture just a few days ago. It is Andi under the red light therapy light in a basket. I was just about to take her picture sleeping in the light when she heard me and quickly turned toward myself and the camera. Not fully in focus as it happened so fast, but an interesting shot of Andi nonetheless.

Today's Quote: “From the land of dreams to the land that needs them. From asleep to awake in one heartbeat.” - Angela Abraham

Picture Taken: December 2023.

tuxedo cat and forest cat in home-made cat tree from cedar logs

Thursday December 14, 2023 Pic of the Day.

December 2020 is three years ago. Took a look through my pictures from December 2020, and found this one of Norton and Dexter (tuxedo) on the top of the cat tree I made for them in November of 2017. Both watching me take pictures of them and other cats.

Today's Quote: “Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind.” - Mary Ellen Chase

Picture Taken: December 2020.

tuxedo cat and two forest cats siblings

Wednesday December 13, 2023 Pic of the Day.

One of the very few pictures I have of all three sisters in the same shot. These three are the remaining kittens from 2008 when I took in their mom and the five kittens. Daisy, the one on the lower shelf eating - is so shy and reclusive that I only have a handful of pictures of her. Elly-May and Andi (tuxedo) are not at all like their sister Daisy.

Today's Quote: “I had reclusive tendencies for a reason, I couldn’t be trusted to live in the world and make decisions on my own.” - Penny Reid, Neanderthal Seeks Human

Picture Taken: December 2022.

forest cat

Tuesday December 12, 2023 Pic of the Day.

All the colours somehow fit together in this picture of sleeping Elly-May in the cat tree.

Today's Quote: “Everything that you can see in the world around you presents itself to your eyes only as an arrangement of patches of different colors.” - John Ruskin

Picture Taken: December 2022.

Sunday December 10, 2023 Pic of the Day.

A year ago. Andi in the basket with the painting of Cornelius on the wall behind her.

Today's Quote: “The reason some portraits don't look true to life is that some people make no effort to resemble their pictures.” - Salvador Dalí

Picture Taken: December 2022.

forest cat and abyssinian cat

Saturday December 09, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Another picture with Norton, this time sleeping on my lap with Patty.

Today's Quote: “I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” - Ernest Hemingway

Picture Taken: November 2020.

forest cat and tuxedo cat

Friday December 08, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Another picture of young Avensby. This time with her closest friend Norton. Norton was amazing with Avensby when she was a kitten.

Today's Quote: “In a dying civilization, political prestige is the reward not of the shrewdest politician, but of the man with the best bedside manner. It is the decoration conferred on mediocrity by ignorance.” - Eric Ambler, The Mask of Dimitrios

Picture Taken: December 2016.

orange tabby and tuxedo cat

Thursday December 07, 2023 Pic of the Day.

I'm on a Leon roll lately. All the cats adored Leon, and it was easy to know why. He was very kind and gentle. He was like a father to Avensby when I took her in as an 8 week old kitten. All 3 of the male cats treated her very kindly, whereas the female cats were not too keen on her.

Today's Quote: “You cannot do kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Picture Taken: December 2016.

orange tabby and forest cat

Wednesday December 06, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Another picture of Leon and Fiona. Not related, but the closest pair of cats I've witnessed. I have dozens of pictures of these two cuddled up.

Today's Quote: “Remember, there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” - Scott Adams

Picture Taken: December 2016.

orange tabby and forest cat

Tuesday December 05, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Not much of a photograph, though Leon's beautiful orange coat comes through here. This picture amazes me because I remember taking it so clearly, and it feels very recent, but it is 12 years ago. I was reading, put the book down for a rest, cleaned my glasses, and Leon came over to sniff the glasses' cleaning cloth, and Fiona watched him. I had my camera with me and just snapped it. Some pictures I take to try and capture a beautiful image, some I take just to remember or save the moment for later. I'm really glad I took this picture, because it brings back the memory of when I took it, and a lot of surrounding time as well.

Today's Quote: "Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think." - Chinese proverb

Picture Taken: December 2011.

calico cat and tuxedo cat

Monday December 04, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Andi is the tuxedo, and her mom is the calico - her name was Mumma-Puma or Mom. Mumma-Puma would have been 12, and Andi would have been 8. They were always close from when Andi was a kitten until the very hour Mumma-Puma died.

Today's Quote: "All I want for Christmas is food, sleep, and a box." - Every Cat, Ever”

Picture Taken: December 2016.

Forest cat with racoon tail

Sunday December 03, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Fiona has a tail that stands out. This picture captures it well. This was taken 12 years ago, and her tail is not so bushy now.

Today's Quote: "What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness." - John Steinbeck

Picture Taken: October 2011.

tuxedo cat with toy Sylvester car in remote toy car

Saturday December 02, 2023 Pic of the Day.

Another picture of Cornelius, this time in December of 2007. To the right of this picture, or behind Cornelius, is a woodstove that is pumping out heat.

Today's Quote: “December's wintery breath is already clouding the pond, frosting the pane, obscuring summer's memory...” - John Geddes

Picture Taken: December 2007.

ladybugs on a log

Saturday December 02, 2023 Pic of the Day - Picture 2.

When I found today's picture of the day with Cornelius above, I saw this one. I took this in December of 2007 when I was loading firewood into the house. Ladybugs will hide in firewood piles for some reason. I like the assortment of Ladybug colours in this picture. I remember taking this picture.

Picture Taken: December 2007.

tuxedo cat with toy Sylvester car in remote toy car

Friday December 01, 2023 Pic of the Day.

20 years ago. Taken in December of 2003. Cornelius with the remote control electric car I had at the time. I found the Sylvester toy outside somewhere - I can't remember where now. Washed and dried it and put it in the remote car. Turned out, it was a good size match for the car. Cornelius and I had a lot of fun with this.

Today's Quote: “It is December, and nobody asked if I was ready.” - Sarah Kay

Picture Taken: December 2003.

tuxedo cat with toy Sylvester car in remote toy car

Friday December 01, 2023 Pic of the Day - Picture 2.

I wanted to include this 2nd picture for December 1. This was also taken 20 years ago. We had heard about Saskatoon Street, London, Ontario, Canada, where many of the neighbours had gone crazy with the Christmas light decorations. We drove out to look, and this is what we saw. The street was also a traffic jam as so many people had heard about this and came out. I even heard mention of it on the local news. This was the time before efficient LED Christmas lights, and I heard that these houses were using a huge amount of electricity costing the homeowners a lot.

Picture Taken: December 2003.
