Cornelius loved being held. I was surprised by this, as he was a feral 4 year old Tomcat when he was found in farm country. He adjusted to the home life very quickly.

Happy winter solstice today! After today, the days start getting longer in the northern hemisphere. This is Cornelius in December 2005 snoozing with his eyes covered.

Today's Quote: "I must have a cat whom I find homeless, wandering about the court, and to whom, therefore, I am under no obligation. I have already selected a dirty little drunken wretch of a kitten to be the successor to my poor old cat." - Samuel Butler 1835-1902

Picture Taken: December 2003.

cat in basket basking by fire

Tuesday December 20, 2022 Pic of the Day.

This picture was taken when I was visiting friends on Christmas day 2003. The cat is Betty. I used to cat sit her for years when her family was away at the cottage or out of town. Betty and I got along great, and I think of her often.

mom and three kittens

Saturday December 17, 2022 Pic of the Day.

I took in a feral barn cat and her kittens in late November of 2008, and this is a picture of 3 of the 5 kittens and the mom after I was able to capture them. I kept the whole lot of them, and still have the two in the lower left of the picture.

tuxedo cat under infrared light

Tuesday December 13, 2022 Pic of the Day.

The other day a person who regularly drives by where I live asked what the bright red light is coming from my place they can see when it is dark. I told them it is a near-infrared and infrared light that is used for light therapy I have set up for the cats. I've been doing this since 2003 when I was trying everything to help Cornelius with his health issues, and tried a brooder lamp with a cooler room. It did help his breathing issues - and he really liked it for about 1/2 hour at a time, then he would move and I would turn the light off. I read many years later that red light therapy is a real thing, and had to laugh I had tripped upon the concept long before. This is Cornelius under the light in December of 2003.

Today's Quote: "A cat's got her own opinion of human beings. She don't say much, but you can tell enough to make you anxious not to hear the whole of it." - Jerome K. Jerome

forest cat kitten

Sunday December 11, 2022 Pic of the Day.

It was 7 years ago today I grabbed the feral Norton off the street and made him part of the family. He was born in a neighbour's shed. I took this picture the next day after I took him in. He was off to the vet soon after this picture to get checked out. Norton is now a cental member of the family that everyone likes.

Picture Taken: February 2021.

cats on a blanket

Monday December 05, 2022 Pic of the Day.

Following up on yesterday's picture, this is Norton with some of the other cats only a few days after I took him in. It was unreal how fast Norton and the other cats became friends. Sadly, I only had a very poor quality camera at the time I got Norton, so all of the pictures from that time are poor.

Today's Quote: “The ideal of calm exists in a sitting cat." - Jules Reynard

Picture Taken: December 2015.

tuxedo cat under tuxedo cat picture

Sunday December 04, 2022 Pic of the Day.

In December of 2015, I took in a feral cat I named Norton. He was born in my next door neighbour's shed, and lived outside. I took him in because the weather was getting very cold, and the many attemps my neighbour made to find a home for him failed. I had too many cats, but Norton was very special, and I'm quite glad I took him in. This fuzzy picture of Norton, the fuzzy cat, was taken not long after I grabbed him and put him in a pen so I could take him to the vet to check him out before trying to mix him with the other cats.

Today's Quote: “Prowling his own quiet backyard or asleep by the fire, he is still only a whisker away from the wilds." - Jean Burden

Picture Taken: December 2015.

mother and daughter cat with 2 other cats

Friday December 02, 2022 Pic of the Day.

From 5 years ago. On the top of the cat tree is Elly-May (front) and her mom, Mumma-Puma (behind Elly-May). In the middle shelf wooden box is Avensby, and in the blue plastic container is Fiona.

Today's Quote: “With the qualities of cleanliness, affection, patience, dignity, and courage that cats have, how many of us, I ask you, would be capable of becoming cats?" - Fernand Mery

Picture Taken: November 2017.

cats on a bed

Thursday December 01, 2022 Pic of the Day.

While the weather outside is not pleasant from a cat's perspective, they are not going out in the pen as much and are spending more time inside. I have to laugh at Norton (lower right), he always goes for this small oval basket that is obviously too small for him.

Today's Quote: “Don't think that I'm silly for liking it, I just happen to like the simple little things, and I love cats!" - Michelle Gardner

Picture Taken: November 2022.
