tuxedo cat sleeping on lap

Saturday July 31, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I remember this. I had fallen asleep on a chair, and when I woke up, I found Avensby passed out sleeping like this. I slowly reached for my phone and got a picture.
Taken: August 2018.

Elly-May and Andi. Sisters from the same litter. In about 6 weeks, they will be 13 years old.
Taken: July 2021.

tuxedo cat

Thursday July 29, 2021 Pic of the Day.

The cats are not supposed to be on this sofa, but over time I'm starting to not care as much about keeping the cats off. I think Andi is both amazed and thrilled she is being allowed to stay on the "forbidden sofa".

Not an upside down picture. Avensby is on her back looking at me take her picture. Like yesterday's picture, taken in very low light with a fast lens.

Monday July 26, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Norton. You can see how this pictures compares to the picture of Cornelius taken in 2003 that is the picture of the day Saturday, July 24. Much better camera and lens now, but I still really enjoy getting a good picture of a cat's face up close. Back in 2003, I had to get the camera right in close. Now, I can stay back about 2 feet (60cm) which is less likely to disturb them and lose the moment.
Taken: March 2021.

cats in a sunroom

Sunday July 25, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Three years ago yesterday. Taken through a window in a door. Avensby is aware of what I'm doing, while the others snooze.
Taken: July 2018.

tuxedo cat

Saturday July 24, 2021 Pic of the Day.

It was around this time I started experimenting with taking pictures of cats very close. Some pictures worked, most didn't. Cornelius was a feral four year old tomcat just six month before this picture was taken, so I think he showed great tolerance of my getting right up into his face to take pictures.
Taken: February 2003.

tuxedo cat

Friday July 23, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Cornelius was an indoor cat who spent the first four years of his life as an outdoor, feral, farm country cat. I felt sorry for him when he would stare out the window. I tried putting a dog pen in the window, half in, half out. The pen fit really well, and Cornelius ended up loving this spot. It was about seven feet off the ground, and he had a view of 180 degrees over yards, a school playround and a little woods with lots of wildlife. As you can see, there was a roof overhang of about two feet which kept rain off the pen.

two tuxedo cats Forest cat

Wednesday July 21, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I have two tiny cats. One is Fiona - see the Friday, July 09 picture below. The other is Avensby in the middle in this picture. She is 3 years old in this picture, so fully grown. She, like her mom and siblings, was tiny even as a kitten.
Taken: August 2019.

tuxedo cat - mother and son cats

Tuesday July 20, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Avensby has eyes that could scare the wits out of anyone not familiar with cats. She has a very serious, strong personality that comes through quite well in this picture. I've mentioned a few times before, she has a look in her eyes that really reminds me of owls. Also, if you look into her left eye (right side of picture), it looks like the moon in her pupil with some kind of spacecraft orbiting.
Taken: May 2021.

orange tabby cat and calico cat - mother and son cats

Monday July 19, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Another picture from three years ago. This one was taken the day before the picture I showed for yesterday's picture. This is Leon (orange tabby) and his calico mom named Mumma-Puma. Both enjoying a really nice day in the sunroom.
Taken: July 2018.

orange tabby cat

Sunday July 18, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Leon exactly three years to the day ago. Watching me hang the laundry. I came over and took this picture. You can see Norton in behind Leon. Not only is this picture three years to the day, it was exactly one month later that Leon died from cancer. I knew at the time he was unwell, and the vet was trying different treatments, but they only kept him going for about a year or so longer. Also, in behind, through the sunroom, you can see my large crabapple tree. Sadly, I just cut it down today as it was rotted out in the trunk, and a huge section fell off in a storm a few days ago. Changes, always change.
Taken: July 2018.

silver abyssinian cat

Saturday July 17, 2021 Pic of the Day.

A nice picture of Patty cat from July of 2018. In the sunroom on the old cedar picnic table.
Taken: July 2018.

tuxedo cat

Friday July 16, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I was looking for another picture when I saw this one of Fiona when she was just under 2 years old. She looks really good here. In the sunroom.
Taken: July 2012.

tuxedo cat

Thursday July 15, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Wow, almost 16 years ago now. Cornelius looking great with his glistening coat in the garden enjoying a beautiful August day. This is one of those pictures I remember taking. It feels more recent than 16 years ago though. Those were mainly very nice days with Cornelius at that time. I was staying at a friends house in the basement apartment as my house was being sold before I moved to the log cabin in the woods. The basement apartment was level with the ground in the back yard as the house was on a steep hill, and the back yard was about 2 acres that backed onto a park on the river. Cornelius and I would spend hours in the back of the back yard which was a forest just enjoying the warm, sunny days.
Taken: August 2005.

forest cat and tuxedo cat

Wednesday July 14, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I know why I took this picture. For Dexter (tuxedo) and Elly-May to be together like this is unusual. Very unusual. Both are nice cats that just happen to not be keen on each other. Not sure how this happened.
Taken: April 2018.

forest cat

Tuesday July 13, 2021 Pic of the Day.

This is Daisy. She is the least photographed cat of the lot. She is extraordinarily shy and introverted. She is the sister of Andi, Elly-May, Chessie and Leon all from the same last litter of Mumma-Puma.
Taken: July 2015.

tuxedo cat with many toy mice

Monday July 12, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Margarita and her toy mouse collection. In truth, Margarita was very hard to bond with as she was not quick to trust. I think her life before I got her wasn't the best. She was at least two years old when she was found. She really enjoyed me playing with her with the mice. I put these mice on her one at a time, and she seemed to enjoy it. Had to take a picture. You can see in her eyes that even though she liked playing, she was still on alert and cautious. I had her 5 1/2 months when this picture was taken. We are very close now, but that bond took years to develop, and to this day, she is still one of the most wild or feral cats that live with me.
Taken: July 2014.

7 cats hanging around

Sunday July 11, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I was just randomly thinking that 2014 was 7 years ago now. Not sure why, just a passing thought. So, I thought to look back 7 years and see what was happening. I found this July 2014 picture of 7 of my ? cats relaxing. 7 years ago, in the 7th month, a picture of 7 cats. Hmmmm. Oh, and the picture was the 14th of July, which is two 7's. And, it was the 14th day of July in 2014.
Taken: July 2014.

tuxedo cat and brown tabby sisters

Saturday July 10, 2021 Pic of the Day.

So, the last picture for a while from 2013. Yesterday's picture is of Mumma-Puma and Fiona. Not directly related, maybe not at all. However, these two are two of the five kittens from Mumma-Puma's last litter in the fall of 2008. The brown/orange tabby is Chessie and her tuxedo sister is Andi. I think the story of the Cheshire cat may have been inspired by a cat who had markings like Chessie. From Wikipedia, "One distinguishing feature of the Alice-style Cheshire Cat involves a periodic gradual disappearance of its body, leaving only one last visible trace: its iconic grin." When Chessie was about six months old, she was in the tunnel that led to the cat pen I made (you can see it here) around dusk. The light was such that you could just barely see - it was a remote forest area with no street lighting. When Chessie was still, you could see her. But when she started to move, she would disappear only to become visible again when she stopped moving. It gave the illusion of her disappearing and reappearing in a different spot. This stunned me. First, I would have thought it would have been the opposite, and second, I had never seen anything like that before. There was something about her colours & pattern that did it I assume. I saw this happen maybe up to six times over her life, and with her only. Always when it was so dark, you could barely see.
Taken: March 2013.

two forest cats

Friday July 09, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Yet another picture from 2013 like yesterday & the day before. As I mentioned for the July 07 picture, I found some pictures I had either missed or forgotten about. This is Mumma-Puma (large cat) who is about 8 1/2 years old, and Fiona who is about 4 1/2. I've mentioned many times Fiona is a tiny cat, and you can see that here. Mumma-Puma would have been about 16 pounds in this picture, and Fiona was about 6 1/2 pounds. I've always suspected there is a family relationship with Mumma-Puma and Fiona, though I'm not sure. Mumma-Puma was spayed in late 2008 after her last litter when she was about 4 years old. Fiona was found in March of 2011, and the vet said she was about 6 months old. My guess is that Fiona is a daughter of one of Mumma-Pumas kittens from a litter before I found her. They were found in the same very remote area. If this guess is correct, then we have a picture of grandmother and granddaughter.
Taken: March 2013.

tuxedo cat and orange tabby

Thursday July 08, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Another picture from 2013 like yesterday. Again with Leon. This time with Dexter. Everyone loved Leon. He was quite sweet, and just wanted to get along.
Taken: March 2013.

forest cat and orange tabby

Wednesday July 07, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I just discovered a bunch of pictures that either I have not seen before or forgot about. Early 2013. This is one is of Leon (orange tabby) and Fiona cuddled up on a sleeping bag in the sunroom early in March in 2013. These two were very, very close. Leon passed away in mid-2018, and it was a sad time for Fiona without him.
Taken: March 2013.

tuxedo cat Forest cat and tuxedo cat in a sunroom

Tuesday July 06, 2021 Pic of the Day.

After doing the housework, I put my feet up in the sunroom while sitting back in my beloved zero gravity chair. Avensby got up in my lap while Norton cleaned himself and Andi relaxed by the window.
Taken: July 2021.

tuxedo cat and forest cat sisters

Monday July 05, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I was in the sunroom yesterday, and Elly-May & Andi (tuxedo) were enjoying sleeping in the heat of summer. Sisters from the same litter born in 2008. That table they are on was bought by my parents in 1970 as part of an outdoor table and bench set. Made of western red cedar, it truly has stood the test of time. I decided a few years ago it should not be outside in the elements any more and brought it inside to the sunroom where the cats love it. The two curved bench seats that came with it fell apart a couple of decades ago.

tuxedo cat on dock watching minnows

Sunday July 04, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Yesterday was the 3rd year anniversary of this website. See description below for more information. This was the first picture I posted on July 03, 2018. It is of Cornelius watching minnows from a dock at Aylen Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Taken: October 2006.

tuxedo cat and calico cat - mother and daughter

Saturday July 03, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Yesterday I showed a picture of Andi taken in February of this year. Here is a picture of Andi with her mom (Mumma-Puma) taken in September of 2012. They were a very close mother and daughter. Andi would have just turned 4, and her mom would have been 8. On another note, today is the 3rd year anniversary of this website. I got the idea while doing dishes near the end of June 2018, and posted the first picture of the day on July 03, 2018. I had been thinking about all the pictures I have of my cats, and thought there might be other people who would enjoy them. According to the statistics from the web hosting company I use, there are about 300 individuals per month on average who look at this site. There are people from almost every country around the world who have visited. In the world of web pages, 300 per month is a tiny, tiny number, but my personal goal has been acheived if I brought some happiness to even a small number. In the first couple of months of this site in 2018, there were about 10-15 people per month looking, and it has slowly grown to around 300 in the three years. I had to laugh when a story about this site was related to me. A person I know showed this site to her nephew who is in his 40's. She said he was completely perplexed by this site, and she said his response was: "Why would anyone do that?"
Taken: September 2012.

Friday July 02, 2021 Pic of the Day.

An interesting picture because of the expression on Andi's face.
Taken: February 2021.

tuxedo cat

Thursday July 01, 2021 Pic of the Day.

When I got up this morning I was thinking of Cornelius. Here is a picture of him being carried around in the garden I had at the time. He really enjoyed being carried around outside.
Taken: July 2003.
