Tuesday June 29, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Today is the fifth anniversary of when I brought home Avensby. She was an eight week old kitten born to a feral mom cat in my neighbour's garden shed. When I brought her home, I put her in a pen set up with water, blankets, a box, toys and food. When this picture was taken, she had just been taken away from her family a few minutes ago and she was very confused and frightened. She did recover quickly. I took a video of her on the second day I had her here.

Monday June 28, 2021 Pic of the Day.
I got up this morning and realized I had not posted the picture of the day for today. I walked by the door to the sunroom, and Norton and Avensby were in there watching what's going on outside. Mainly watching birds, chipmonks, squirrels & bugs. I got to the computer, and looked to June 28, 2018 to see what what going on three years ago today. Basically, the same thing as today: Norton & Avensby watching the world through the window in the sunroom.

Monday June 21, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Welcome to summer. I have a particular fascination with cat family relationships. This is a picture taken yesterday of Andi (tuxedo) and her sister Elly-May. They are sisters from the same litter back in 2008. They were close right from when I got them, their mom & siblings when they were 6 weeks old or so. They will be 13 years old this coming fall.

Sunday June 20, 2021 Pic of the Day.
For the June 11 picture of the day, I showed Elly-May and Avensby from almost two years ago and I mentioned that Elly-May was exactly double the weight of Avensby even though they were both full grown adult female cats. Elly-May is the forest cat and Avensby is the tuxedo. This picture of them in the sunroom yesterday gives you a more accurate idea of the size difference. Elly-May is almost double Avensby's weight now - Elly-May is the exact same weight she was then, but Avensby has gained a tiny bit.

Friday June 18, 2021 Pic of the Day.
I was taking a look at what was going on three years ago, and found this picture of Andi that I took while she was watching me trim the front Yew hedge. Taken through the window with the reflection obscuring her face, but the look in her eyes is so sweet, I just had to show it. One of Andi's attributes is her ability to communicate with her eyes. She is a very "with it" cat.

Thursday June 17, 2021 Pic of the Day.
I was sitting with Patty and Norton on my lap, and suddenly they were doing this. I didn't know why until I went upstairs later and noticed there had been a delivery. I just thought they looked great together and took a picture with my phone as fast as I could. Patty and Norton have become close, and I'm very happy about that as Patty (left, behind) was not a cat that made friends easily until Norton won her over.

I had to drop something off at someones home, and in their front garden was this welded steel garden art cat. I've seen many of these type of steel cats, but this one is really sweet. Had to take a picture.

Tuesday June 15, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Yet another picture I don't remember taking, and don't even remember seeing. Like I do often, I was checking out what was going on a year ago, and saw this picture of Norton and Fiona on the top of the dog pen. The dog pen is used if I have to isolate a cat as per the vet's instructions. I cannot remember why it was out last year however. Norton is a normal sized cat, maybe a little bigger than average, but even though he looks like a Maine Coon, he is nowhere near as big as a Maine Coon. Fiona on the other hand is a very small cat.

Sunday June 13, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Somehow I had missed seeing this picture since I took it. Leon looking really good. The picture is surprisingly good quality considering it was taken with a discount smartphone. I would have never guessed when I took this picture that Leon had just a little under a year to live - he died of cancer in August of 2018. Such a nice cat, and I do miss him and think of him quite often.

Saturday June 12, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Every cat is unique. One of the aspects of Avensby that I notice often is her whiskers. She seems to have more than most cats, and her whiskers form a beautiful cascading pattern that fan out symetrically. I was taking her picture when she yawned capturing her whiskers in the perfect light angle to show them clearly. Taken from the outside through a screen.

Friday June 11, 2021 Pic of the Day.
When I was looking for yesterday's picture, I saw this one. Avensby is the tuxedo cat with her head under the light, Elly-May is the forest cat with her back to the camera. Both are fully grown adult cats, but Avensby is a very small cat, and Elly-May, as is typical for a forest cat, is very large. This picture really shows the size difference. Last time they were weighed, Elly-May was exactly double the weight of Avensby. However, it looks like more than double because Elly-May has very long fur, whereas Avensby has quite short fur. This table is set up for the cats to "sun" themselves when inside in the non-summer season. The lamp Avensby is under is a 60 watt incandecent. Most of the cats spend some time with their face in the light.

Thursday June 10, 2021 Pic of the Day.
A couple of days ago, I was looking at Norton sleeping and noticed how nice his white feet with mainly black toes looked. I tried to take a picture, but he woke and jumped down right away, which is normal as you know if you are a person who takes pictures of cats. I decided to look through my pictures and see if I could find a picture that showed his toes, and found this one of him sleeping on my lap a couple of years ago.

Wednesday June 09, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Two days ago I showed a picture of Andi from three years ago. I had mentioned that I could see that Andi has aged. Here is a picture of her from just a little over a month ago. As I thought about it, I realized that Andi is 30% older now than she was then, so I shouldn't be surprised to notice the change. All that said, she seems to have more energy now than she did then.

When I saw this picture of Andi from just under three years ago, I was a bit taken aback. Andi would have been about one month away from being 10 years old in this picture. Now, she is about three months away from being 13. The reason I was taken aback, is that I can really see how Andi has aged in the almost three years since this picture was taken.

Another from June 2015. I have no idea what Fiona and Leon are looking up at now, but this is not a good shot of Leon - he was a nice looking cat. However, this is a great shot showing Fiona's wonky whiskers that I have mentioned numerous times on this site. Every since I found her as a lost six month old, she had wonky whiskers. This picture really shows them well. Actually, I have to laugh because every time I notice her whiskers, I think she looks like a cartoon image where she got an electic shock.

I have so many pictures of my cats (well over 70,000 now), that when looking through them, I often see pictures that I don't know if I've looked at after taking them. This is one of those. Fiona (left) and Patty (right) on a cat paw blanket. This is six years ago, and I can really see how they look younger than they do now.

Friday June 04, 2021 Pic of the Day.
I was looking to three years ago around now, and found this one of Avensby poking her head through the wire mesh that is there to keep the cats out of the basement. I was preparing her food, and as ususal for her back then, food was a very serious business. She has relaxed a bit since then. I noticed that you can see me taking her picture in her eyes just like yesterday's picture. Avensby looks like she is half cat, half owl.

Wednesday June 02, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Rarely do I show a picture that is not a cat, but this one I find really interesting, and there is a cat angle. I was outside by the pool when there were a couple of ducks in it. They are used to me, and have come by many times. The cats were watching the ducks from the sunroom, and I was taking pictures of the ducks with a cheap smartphone using the zoom option which gives a very poor quality picture. I just happened to capture the moment this duck was taking off in flight from the water.

I was taking pictures of these two when there was a sudden noise from another cat in a room on the other side of the wall. I happened to snap the picture just at the right moment.
