Out of curiosity, I looked back one year and found this picture of Margarita, Norton & Patty on the chair with me. I've had up to five cats on me at one time, but I'm not able to take a picture when that happens. Even three cats is quite warm.

My big eyed cat. Actually, her eyes are the same size as my other large cat's eyes, but Fiona is a tiny cat making her eyes look huge. See the January 3 picture for another example. It gives her a cartoon quality. She is looking up at the cat shelf by the window, and was just about to leap up. You can see clear, focused intent in her look.

When Norton gets onto my lap he is very enthusiastic. If I'm holding anything like a cup of tea, he will bump my arm and spill it. When he got onto my lap this time, I held my arm up in the air holding my tea away from him. He surprised me by lying down and gently pressing his forehead against my arm and sitting there quietly. I happened to be reading my e-mail on my phone with my left hand, so I was able to quickly take this picture.

I wanted to see what was going on 16 years ago. Found this picture of Cornelius on my desk. I remember taking this. Because the cats had walked on my keyboard and messed up my work on the computer before, I had moved the keyboard off behind the phone while I went and got a cup of tea. When I got back, this is what I found. I had been looking at pictures recently taken, so I've got a picture of Cornelius with Cornelius.

Swamp creature! I didn't do this, Avensby likes to tunnel around under blankets, and after she was doing that, she popped up at the edge and took a break - this is how she eneded up.

Avensby on the floor of the sunroom when she was 2 years old. Even at 2 years old, she still looks very kitten like to me.

Third picture in a series. I thought I would post one more cat-family picture. On the right is the mom, Mumma-Puma, the centre is her daughter Andi, and the left is her daughter Elly-May from the same litter as Andi - which was Mumma-Puma's last litter. Very close family. This picture is a true success for me. I like to capture pictures where the cats are just being themselves as if I wasn't in the room. I take so many pictures of the cats that they don't even notice me doing it. Elly-May is enjoing the view outside, Andi doing the same in a different direction, and Mumma-Puma is just relaxed and staring into space. I mentioned on Thursday that Andi and Mumma-Puma were very close from the start, and were always close. Elly-May is a different story. She was the first to voluntarily stop nursing as a kitten, and though she and Mumma-Puma got along, they were not close from then on. However, when Elly-May was about 4 or 5 years old, she and her mom started to get along better, and started to become close. By the time this picture was taken (Mumma-Puma 14 & Elly-May 10), they had become very close. That is a familiar story with many parents & their children. The children seem to rebel or drift from the parent's life, to come back and get along well as the child becomes older. If you look down the page at the Thursday, January 14 picture, you can see Elly-May cleaning Mumma-Puma when she was sick and near the end of her life.

Family picture. Mother cat Mumma-Puma on the right, her daughter Andi in the middle, and Andi's brother from the same litter Leon on the left. Very typical picture of how they would spend time together. I used to sometimes call this family unit, which also included 3 other sisters, "The Pride", as it reminded me of pictures of prides of Lions when they were just sitting around under a tree. This family of cats were very social in nature compared to many cats I've had. Individual cats, like people, are sometimes very social, sometimes solitary. One more thing to note, Leon was not feeling well here, and you can see it on his face if you know cats. He is not (and never was) grumpy. Mumma-Puma was 14 in this picture, Andi & Leon were 10. Note: this picture was taken a week later than yesterday's picture!

Anyone who has spent time on this website knows that I particularly like pictures of cats that show relationships. This is a mother & daughter picture. Mumma-Puma, the mom cat is on the right. Andi, the daughter is on the left. You can also just see a small splash of orange behind Andi. That is Andi's brother Leon. Mumma-Puma is 14 here, and Andi & Leon are 10. It is not hard to notice how close Mumma-Puma and Andi were. Their personalities were almost identical, which is not the case with Andi's 4 siblings from the same litter. Right from when I first found them and took them in, Andi and Mumma-Puma were very close, and over the years, that relationship never wavered. Also, their coat patters were almost identical except the areas where Andi's coat is black, Mumma-Puma's was calico. My vet got a laugh when I called Mumma-Puma a "Calituxitab". It was a compressed word I made up of Calico, Tuxedo & Tabby. Mumma-Puma had Calico colouring, with a Tuxedo Pattern, and where she was Calico, there were Tabby stripes.

For last Friday & Saturday's pictures, I showed Avensby with her tent. Here is another picture I came across of her with her tent, this time on the bookshelf. She really liked that tent. I'm going to have to get another one. Can't beleive this was 2 years ago.

Finally! Avensby got her tent set up and is now settling in for a snooze.

Avensby is having quite the time setting up her tent. Mind you, if you've ever set up a tent, you know how frustrating it can be. She even has that "at wits' end" expression on her face you get when setting up a tent.

Truly a bittersweet picture. Mumma-Puma on the left and her daughter Elly-May on the right. Elly-May is grooming the back of Mumma-Puma's head and neck in this picture. The bitter part was that Mumma-Puma was 14 years old and not well. There was not much the vet could do, and 12 days later Mumma-Puma was gone. The sweet part was Elly-May and her sister Andi stayed close to Mumma-Puma while she was ill, sleeping right beside her, and both groomed her.

Avensby loves to get completely covered in catnip when I put it down for the cats. She will then go off by herself and lick off and eat every last spot of it, and that can take a while. It appears that the rolling in it is to gather it up for eating later.

A tuxedo cat among giants. Avensby when she was 9 weeks old with the adult cats. I am sorry I didn't have a better camera at that time.

I've been emailing back and forth with someone, and the subject was Cornelius for the most part. I was looking through pictures of him to email, and while I was doing that, I found this one that I don't think I've used here before. This is Cornelius being held while walking through gardens at a house I had about 17 to 20 years ago. Cornelius loved being carried around, and you can see that in his facial expression. Only 10 1/2 months before, Cornelius was a very sick feral 4 year old Tomcat. He adjusted quickly to the home life.

Dexter in the bathroom sink. I had him about two weeks when this picture was taken. He was a feral four year old Tomcat when I got him, and he was still adjusting to the indoor life. For a while, he used to sleep in the sink, but soon he moved on to blankets and cat beds.

It is hard to get pictures that highlight cat's whiskers. Backlighting is the answer, but cooperation from the cat is another matter. I've mentioned before Avensby has large whiskers for her size, and this picture captures that. Not only are her whiskers large for her body size, but they have a really nice shape to them. She also seems to have more whiskers than my other cats.

Norton and Dexter. Best friends. Dexter was cleaning the top of Norton's head, ears, chin and back of neck. Norton does the same to Dexter, then they fall asleep. You couldn't imagine two more different personalities, but quite compatible.

Welcome to my world. A moment in my life. Taken with an ultra-wide lens. Norton on my lap, Patty (silver) on the floor to my right, Avensby eating the wheat grass I grow for the cats, Dexter on the middle shelf of the cat tree, and Andi in the top right basket of the cat tree. You can't see it, but Fiona (see yesterday's picture) is in the basket on the window shelf enjoying the sun.

If the Grey Aliens had cats, I bet this is what they would look like. Fiona is a tiny cat with huge eyes. She is about 10 here. Sometimes I call her "the owl", or "owl cat". I just realized as I was typing this that owls and alien encounters are related. Hmmm.

Norton has a great mane. He is very photogenic. Also, his colours are rich and lush. Hard not to love taking pictures of him.
