Friday December 31, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Mumma-Puma and two of her five kittens. Andi (tuxedo) and Leon (orange tabby). In a flower pot by the woodstove. This time of year I'm reminded of this time 13 years ago. Mumma-Puma and the kittens had recently gone from barn cats to indoor house, or cabin cats. This was early January 2009, and it was fun to watch the kittens play, explore & grow while all of us were cooped up in a cabin in the woods of central Ontario during a cold winter.

This picture was not dated, but based on a few factors in the picture, I'd say the Christmas of 1959 or Christmas of 1960. The cat is Tiger, and you can see another picture of him in the Sunday, December 26 picture below.

Luckily, this photo was dated. It is September 1988. Xxaque (white cat) & Katie. Xxaque is pronounced "Zak" with an extra long Z sound.

Sunday December 26, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Finding this picture was a real surprise. I was going through some boxes that had not been opened since moving to this house in the summer of 1969. I found this picture of my dad with his cat Tiger on a boat up north in central Ontario, Canada. Tiger and my dad were very close, and my dad had a thing about mahogany wood lake boats. Although not dated, it had to be taken no later than the summer of 1962, and no earlier than the summer of 1959.

If you look to the picture below, you can see what these three were up to last night. Very busy night for them, now they need rest. Luckily, Christmas day is a a cat holiday.

Friday December 24, 2021 Pic of the Day.
This is the fourth Christmas I've done for TuxedoCatJunction. Every Christmas eve, I use this painting done for me in 1975 as the picture of the day. Even in 1975 I had a reputation of being enchanted by cats. As I said for the December 24, 2018 caption for this picture: "Soon, Santa will be delivering all his toys, pulled of course, by Tuxedo Cats. Merry Christmas to one and all, and to all a good night". As for my gift to you, I wish you peace, joy & wisdom. If you have a cat, give them a hug for me.

Taken in the early 1980's. As usual, I did not date the print. The cat is Kafka. She was found under the hood of a neighbour's car. I don't know how she survived that, but she had a good life after. This is her trying to hide in the crowd at Christmas. Scan of a print.

Leon (orange tabby) and Dexter (tuxedo) cuddled up and sleeping in a chair. These two used to be very close until Leon passed away 3 1/2 years ago.

Cornelius sleeping by the fire. Picture was taken long after the sun went down, and the only light in the log cabin was from the fire. This looks so comfortable and cozy. 15 years ago, but I remember this time like it was very recent.

Sunday December 12, 2021 Pic of the Day.
Norton was a feral cat. On this day 6 years ago I took him in. Kept him in this pen in the garage until the next day when the vet looked him over and said it was safe to add him to the clowder. Next day he was inside and to my complete shock, he and the other cats instantly were friends. No hissing, no scratching, nobody upset. He came in, curled up on a blanket between two cats, they looked at him and they all went to sleep together. Never have I seen anything like that before in the world of cats.

It is snowing where I live today, and I was thinking of the time in the log cabin in the woods with the cats. Here is a picture of the cat pen in late December 2009 I made for them which is connected to the house via the skyway you see in the picture. The cats could safely come and go from the house to the cat pen any time they wanted. If you want to see more pictures, click on this Cat Pen link.

Monday December 06, 2021 Pic of the Day.
I had just taken in Mumma-Puma and her five kittens a few days before. She and her kittens were barn cats, but the barn had recently burned down. After many days, I managed to get Mumma-Puma and her kittens in the house. Mumma-Puma ran out between my legs when I went out to shovel snow. The day before, there was no snow at all. After she ran out she was confronted with this scene. I shovelled, and went back inside where the kittens were. After a while Mumma-Puma realized she was out in the cold and snow and her kittens were in the log cabin. She came to a window and pawed at it. I opened the back door and called. She came running in. She never tried to get out again, and really enjoyed the life as a warn, well fed, sheltered house cat for the next 10 years. I still have three of the kittens, but two have passed away.
