tuxedo cat with tongue out on picnic table

Tuesday August 31, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Good or bad timing snapping this shot depending on whether or not you like it. Avensby in the sunroom on the cedar picnic table.
Taken: July 2021.

tuxedo cat on shelf by window in sun

Monday August 30, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Taken exactly 2 years ago today. Margarita enjoying the sun on a wood shelf by a window. Margarita has eyes that sometimes really look like Alligator eyes to me. Of all my cats, Margarita has the most unusual eyes, or look in her eyes. Margarita is very sweet and warm hearted, but easily annoyed & bored too.
Taken: August 2019.

tuxedo cat and forest cat in sunroom

Sunday August 29, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Taken exactly 3 years ago today. Norton & Avensby.
Taken: August 2018.

tuxedo cat and forest cat

Friday August 27, 2021 Pic of the Day.

These are sisters from the same litter. They will be 13 years old in September. Daisy, the long-haired cat on the right is very shy, nervous and hard to take pictures of, and does not mix well with the other cats except her sister Andi. Andi on the other hand is very social and calm and gets along with every cat.
Taken: August 2021.

tuxedo cat watching intently outside

Sunday August 22, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Avensby is quite intense. Here she is watching something outside. I think it was a chipmunk. In the sunroom on the antique cedar picnic table. I remember when my parents bought this antique table when it was brand new in 1970 or 1971. I guess that makes me older than an antique. Normally, furniture is not an antique at 50 years old, but if a picnic table survives 50 years of constant outdoor use, I think we owe it the honour of being called one. Well, I guess around 40 years of constant outdoor use - within the last decade, I decided to retire it from outdoor use, and bring it inside for good.

forest cat kittens and mom cat

Saturday August 21, 2021 Pic of the Day.

More Kittens. Mumma-Puma with 2 of the 5 kittens from her last litter. Daisy kitten near the front of the chair, and Elly-May behind her. Amazing colours.
Taken: February 2009.

orange tabby kitten in log cabin

Friday August 20, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Once I start with kitten pictures, it is hard for me to stop! Leon poking his head through the railing in the loft of the log cabin the cats & I lived in at the time. Leon is the colour of wood.
Taken: February 2009.

mother cat and three kittens

Thursday August 19, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Another picture from January 2009. Mumma-Puma, the mom cat, looking happy and proud with 3 of the 5 kittens from her last litter when the kittens were about 4 months old. The white with orange patches kitten is Elly-May. The tuxedo kitten is Andi. The orange tabby on the arm of the chair is Leon.
Taken: January 2009.

orange tabby lynx point siamese

Wednesday August 18, 2021 Pic of the Day.

A sweet picture of the kitten Leon and the very old senior cat Felemur enjoying the heat of the woodstove in the log cabin in the woods we used to live in at the time. Leon was about 4 months old here, and Felemur was almost 20 years old. On August 18, 2018 Leon passed away leaving me and the other cats quite sad. He was such a nice cat with no aggressive quality at all. He and his sister Chessie had what the vet thought was a genetic condition. We tried just about everything, but in the end, he passed away just a month before he was 9 years old. Chessie passed away seven months earlier.
Taken: January 2009.

Tuxedo cat

Tuesday August 17, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I mentioned in yesterday's caption for the picture that Cornelius really enjoyed spending time on the docks. Here is a picture of him on the docks at Aylen Lake Ontario. If you know cats, you can tell by his tail that he was quite happy here.
Taken: October 2006.

Tuxedo cat

Monday August 16, 2021 Pic of the Day.

(This is a copy of the text and picture I used for the August 16, 2019 picture of the day. After rereading it, I can't say what I feel any better than this.) This picture was taken on one of the best days Cornelius had. He had spent the morning on the beach and docks at Aylen Lake by Algonquin Park. He loved the time there. He loved the water, the boats, the beach, everything about it. I think this was the best time of his life. After we went back to the rented cottage for lunch, Cornelius went onto this chair and passed out in the sun for the rest of the afternoon. It was early October, so the sun was just the perfect warmth, and it was a beautiful day that was neither cold nor hot with a clear blue sunny sky and the leaves on the trees were turning colour. The window he was in front of was open, so he could hear the sounds of the lake & boats. August the 16th is the day Cornelius died in 2011. We had been together for 9 years and 1 day. August 16 is a sad day for me, but it is the day I remember all the cats I've had that have passed. I chose this picture because it brings back the memories for me of how happy he was at that time, and how he managed to always extract the best from life. I don't think I've met another cat you could take with you on vacation who would not be scared, and who wouldn't try to run away. I would never do that with any cat I've had before or since. It used to amaze me: in the morning after eating, I would open the door, and we would walk to the beach and docks - no leash needed, no need to carry him. He had never seen this place before, but he was fully in charge. We would spend time at the beach and docks, then we would walk back to the house, eat lunch and he would sleep. He even enjoyed the car rides. I had a pen mounted in the back seat on a box so he could see a 360 degree view. He just loved watching the world go by in the car. I had a saying for Cornelius and the way he handled life: "Cornelius - King of all that is".
Taken: October 2006.

Tuxedo cat

Sunday August 15, 2021 Pic of the Day.

HAPPY CORNELIUS DAY! August 15 is Cornelius Day. This picture was taken in early 2003 when Cornelius was sick with serious lung problems. I found turning down the heat in the house and putting him under a heat lamp, and on a heating pad would help with his breathing. The light from the heat lamp is why his stomach looks red. He was a four year old feral Tom Cat when found August 15, 2002, and this picture is special to me, as he just could not believe how well he was being taken care of when he was fairly helpless. The look of love in his eyes in this picture still really touches me. (The description and picture are the same one I used on August 15, 2018).
Taken: January 2003.

forest cat

Saturday August 14, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Daisy is so shy that she runs away if I try to take her picture. However, if she is behind glass and I try and take her picture, she does not run away.
Taken: August 2021.

tuxedo cat

Friday August 13, 2021 Pic of the Day.

This picture was taken about the same time as yesterday's picture. The lighting was beautiful that day. The light is glistening off her fur, and the colours overall are so rich.
Taken: July 2020.

forest cat

Thursday August 12, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Norton watching a bug in the sunroom. I really like the colours in this picture. Notice that the colours of Norton's eyes are the same as the colours of the blurred background - mottled shades of green/yellow.
Taken: July 2020.

tuxedo cat angry at forest cat

Wednesday August 11, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I had given the cats some catnip. It was going well until the flurry of play turned into an angry spat with Avensby quite upset with Norton rolling in "her catnip". I just happened to catch this moment showing how annoyed Avensby was with Norton. Avensby is about half the size of Norton, but Norton backed down, and I stepped in to stop this before it got serious.
Taken: February 2019.

tuxedo cat sleeping

Tuesday August 10, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Avensby snoozing on the glass table in the sunroom.
Taken: July 2020.

tuxedo cat outside

Monday August 09, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Another picture from August 2005. You can read more from both the August 7 & 8 pictures. This time taken from inside the house through the window and screen with Cornelius on the deck.
Taken: August 2005.

tuxedo cat outside

Sunday August 08, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I mentioned yesterday that Cornelius and I stayed at a friends basement apartment while my house sold in August and September of 2005. You can see the house where we stayed in the background. We were at the back section of the yard here, with the park & river behind me when I took this picture. The fence in this picture is part of a dog run area within the yard. Because it had been a dry summer, and it was late in the summer when we stayed here, there were almost no bugs which made it so pleasant.
Taken: August 2005.

tuxedo cat on bed

Saturday August 07, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Most cats don't take well to change or travel. I know. Cornelius was a different beast. I had to stay at friends house for a couple of months when I was selling my house. There was an old basement apartment that was rented to students that went to the nearby university in years past, but had been unused for a couple of decades. I was offered it, and Cornelius and I moved in. This is how Cornelius reacted to the new place. We both really enjoyed the time here, and that August & September had beautiful weather as well. Even though it was a basement apartment, the house was on a hill, so the back of the basement apartment was level with the back yard with a view of a park on a river with a 2 acre back yard for Cornelius and I to relax in.
Taken: August 2005.

tuxedo cat on cat tree in asperagus box

Friday August 06, 2021 Pic of the Day.

Avensby poking her head out of her asperagus box on the cat tree.
Taken: December 2019.

tuxedo cat on human's shoulder

Thursday August 05, 2021 Pic of the Day.

When I took this picture in the bathroom mirror, I had just purchased my new smartphone and was trying to figure it out while Avensby rode around on my shoulder and Dexter was on the sink checking up on what was going on. I had forgotten about my glasses that I sat on and broke the arm right off.
Taken: August 2017.

tuxedo cat on head cushion edge

Wednesday August 04, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I was sitting in this zero gravity chair when Dexter got up behind my head and settled in. He is on the edge of the head cushion. When I sat up to take the picture, the head cushion slid down, but Dexter stayed for the ride.
Taken: July 2020.

mother and three adult kittens

Tuesday August 03, 2021 Pic of the Day.

A familiy picture. The mom cat (Mumma-Puma) nearest the glass table, and three of her nearly 10 year old kittens with her. The orange tabby is Leon, the tuxedo cat is Andi and the long haired white cat with orange patches is Elly-May. The three kittens are from Mumma-Puma's last litter when she was 4 years old.
Taken: August 2018.

tuxedo kitten

Monday August 02, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I was looking for another picture when I saw this. Even though it was taken in low light and is not great in quality, it still is a sweet picture of Avensby when she was almost 3 months old.
Taken: July 2016.

tuxedo cat

Sunday August 01, 2021 Pic of the Day.

I remember taking this picture even though it is a while ago. Cornelius was sleeping like this on the floor, and I thought to myself, the way he had his tail, he looked like my boot scraper by the back door. I went and got the boot scraper, layed it beside Cornelius, and took the picture. I was amazed I was able to do this without Cornelius moving.
Taken: August 2003.
