forest cat

Sunday November 29, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fiona is a small cat. She is around 7 pounds now. She is also very fluffy with lots of longer hairs that stick out all over. Her eyebrow whiskers are quite wonky. Because of all this, she has a ragdoll look. Her personality is determined, strong willed and friendly. She is 9 years old here.
Taken: December 2019.

Another picture of Norton (left) with Patty (right). Patty generally does not get along well with the other cats. However, Norton has been trying hard to make friends with her, and it seems to be working.

cats in a cat tree

Sunday November 22, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I was trying to take pictures of the cats in the cat tree, then a minor fight broke out behind me. Actually, just some hissing back and forth with a few uninspired swings of the front legs. They are getting too old to want to actually fight anymore. Norton and Avensby are watching what's going on, and if you look closely, you can see Andi's ears and right front white paw over Norton. Andi was trying to sleep with her face and right front leg on the basket edge. I'm sorry I missed getting in the picture the annoyed look on Andi's face when this was happening - it woke her up.
Taken: November 2020.

cats in cat tree baskets

Friday November 20, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I cannot see into the baskets on the top of the cat tree. The top edge of the baskets is about 10 inches (20cm) higher than me. This picture was taken just so I could confirm where four cats were that I coundn't account for. I held my camera phone as high as I could, took this picture, then looked at it.
Taken: November 2020.

tuxedo cat yawning

Sunday November 15, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Another picture taken the same day as the last two - November 13 & 14 pictures of the day below. I took a lot of pictures that day as the light was excellent, and the cats were enjoying a very nice, warm sunny evening in the sunroom, and were in a relaxed mood. Dexter giving a massive yawn.
Taken: August 2018.

tuxedo and calico cat in sunroom

Saturday November 14, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This was taken about 20 minutes after yesterday's picture. The light had changed dramatically in that 20 minutes. A mother and daughter picture. Daughter Andi on the left (tuxedo), and calico Mumma-Puma on the right. These two were always very close. If you go to the November 1st picture, you will see the first picture I have of Mumma-Puma with Andi.
Taken: August 2018.

calico cat in sunroom

Friday November 13, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I remember taking quite a few pictures this day. I was taken with the quality of the sunlight. There was a rich, liquid gold quality to the light, and I just couldn't stop taking pictures of the cats. Mumma-Puma in the foreground, and Norton in the back.
Taken: August 2018.

tuxedo cat in sunroom

Sunday November 08, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Andi in the sunroom the other day. I genuinely had no idea Norton was there when I took the picture - I guess I was so focused on Andi. Also, you can just see part of Elly-May on the far left of the picture. I did not notice she was there either. Taken on a surprisingly beautiful November day.
Taken: November 2020.

cat through glass door

Saturday November 07, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I was trying to take a picture of Avensby through the glass door of the sunroom. I can't quite figure out why the picture turned out like this, but at least to me, it is interesting to look at. I know the reflections act differently in shadows, but this is on the north side of the house.
Taken: October 2018.

mother cat and kitten

Monday November 02, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Following up on yesterday's picture, I wasn't able to coax the mom cat and her five kittens inside until December 6th I think. This is a picture from December 8, 2008 when they were still outside, but within a large outdoor pen which had an opening to this pen inside. This way, they could go outsite, but still be safe, and come inside if they were cold. I did this for about a week, then they came inside permanently. As of now, I have still have three left of these six. This picture is blurred, but it's the only one I have where you can clearly see all six together.
Two days after this picture was taken, it snowed very heavily. So much snow came down, the cats would not have been able to survive outside on their own, so I got very lucky being able to get them inside when I did, with little time to spare. The picture below is of my backyard on December 10, 2008. It is the same view as yesterday's picture with Mumma-Puma and her kitten Andi.
Taken: December 2008.

mother cat and kitten

Sunday November 01, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Whenever I think of November, I think of the time I took in a mother cat with her five kittens after the barn they lived in burned down just as winter was setting in. I just want to mention, this picture was taken through a plexiglass window that had screening on it, so the picture is very poor. This is the day or so after I brought home all six cats and made a home for them outside so I could coax them into the log cabin in the woods I lived in at the time. Actually, I should be honest and say that I thought I was getting a mom cat and two kittens - that is what I was told by the neighbour who told me the cats were living under their front porch after the barn burned. I made a makeshift house for them, then I went and got the mom and the two kittens (not easy to catch), and showed them where to live. I had put food and water in it for them. Then, to my surprse the mom left the kittens in the house I made, kept disappearing, and coming back with more kittens until there were five. Not only that, she had to go up my drive, along a dangerous highway, up another laneway, get a kitten, and come back the same way. I watched this almost passing out in fear as she was walking along the road's gravel shoulder with a kitten in her mouth as logging trucks and cars went by at high speed. And, on top of that, she had to cross the highway each time she made the trek. She was so brave too. She did not drop the kitten she was carrying as the trucks loaded with logs would go by her about 3 feet from her. If you know what a fully loaded logging truck sounds and feels like as it blasts by, you know what a noise and ground vibration that makes. I aged about 10 years that afternoon. I should also mention, most of the road shoulder had a two foot high bank of plowed snow, keeping her very close to the road's edge. This picture was taken when they had come out from the makeshift house for a walk. Mumma-Puma (what I named the mom) was nursing, and she was so very happy to not only get all the food she could eat, but warmish water, as all the local water was frozen over and she needed a lot because whe was nursing five kittens. The kitten is Andi. Mumma-Puma is gone now, but I still have Andi and two of her sisters. Her brother and one sister passed away in 2018, the same year Mumma-Puma went. A very nice family of cats, but they do seem prone to health problems.
Taken: November 2008.
