tuxedo cat

Sunday May 31, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Avensby flopped out on my lap. Her eyebrow whiskers are quite interesting.
Taken: May 2020.

tuxedo cat and Lynx Point Siamese

Saturday May 30, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Cornelius about a year on from yesterday's picture with Felemur.
Taken: July 2005.

tuxedo cat in pen resting

Friday May 29, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Cornelius was an indoor cat, but when I went out to work in the garden, I would put him in his pen (which he loved for some reason). He would be outside with me while I worked. He loved sleeping in grass, so I grew cat grass in this tray for him to sleep in.
Taken: June 2004.

silver abyssinian and maine coon cats

Thursday May 28, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Norton (long haired cat) is trying to make friends with Patty. Not so easy. Patty can be difficult. I got a laugh out of Patty here. If you look closely, you will see that Patty has one eye open a little keeping an eye on Norton. Also, Patty's ears tell the story that she is not completely happy with Norton being so close.
Taken: May 2016.

tuxedo cat

Wednesday May 27, 2020 Pic of the Day.

On the Monday, May 25 pic of the day, I showed Dexter and Norton in the Sunroom. That picture was taken just a few days ago. This picture is of Dexter and Norton taken back in May of 2016 when Norton was about 1 year old. These two very different personalities became friends right away, and have remained close friends ever since.
Taken: May 2016.

tuxedo cat

Tuesday May 26, 2020 Pic of the Day.

It is so difficult getting pictures of Margarita. I was sitting in my zero gravity chair in the sunroom, and Margarita poped her head up when I was taking yesterday's picture, so I was ready to get a picture of her. Elly-May in the background mowing the cat grass.
Taken: May 2020.

tuxedo cat and Grey tabby cat

Monday May 25, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I was in the sunroom yesterday, and Dexter (tuxedo) and Norton were enjoying the weather. Norton is cleaning his paw.
Taken: May 2020.

orange tabby and forest cat

Sunday May 24, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Another picture from May of 2017. Leon (orange tabby) and Fiona (little forest cat) were very close. Leon is gone now, and Fiona is going through age related health problems. It's nice for me to see them happy together here.
Taken: May 2017.

two tuxedo cats on a chair

Saturday May 23, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I was looking over pictures from exactly three years ago and found this one of Avensby (small cat) and Dexter (large cat). Avensby is one of my smaller cats, and Dexter is one of the larger ones. I had totally forgotten about this picture.
Taken: May 2017.

mother and daughter cats

Friday May 22, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I picked up Andi (tuxedo) yesterday, and it struck me how she was just like her mom when her mom was her age. Of all the kittens in Mumma-Puma's last litter, Andi was the one who was like her mom, while the others were very different. Mumma-Puma has been gone for a while, but I still have Andi. I looked for a picture of them together, and found this one from almost exactly 5 years ago. One thing that was interesting to me is that the pattern on their coats was almost identical except that where Andi was black, Mumma-Puma's coat was calico.
Taken: May 2015.

orange tabby forest cat

Thursday May 21, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Leon (orange tabby), his sister Elly-May (orange & white), and you can just see their sister Andi's ears behind Leon. Enjoying a beautiful August Afternoon.
Taken: August 2018.

tuxedo cat in basket

Wednesday May 20, 2020 Pic of the Day.

My cats are so used to me taking their pictures, I'm sure some of them are starting to pose when they see me with the camera. Avensby doing her best to look cute in one of the top baskets on the cat tree.
Taken: May 2020.

forest cat in basket yawning

Tuesday May 19, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fiona waking up and yawning. Yawning is an odd thing when you think about it. Fiona's tongue is fascinating here. Tongues are odd too when you think about it. Once in a while, things that have always seemed normal, suddenly seem strange. Like a word you've said thousands of times, sounds odd or wrong.
Taken: May 2020.

cats in window

Monday May 18, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Dexter looks so happy here. In fact, this picture looks like a cartoon version of a happy cat. Notice Dexter's very long tail.
Taken: May 2020.

cats in window

Sunday May 17, 2020 Pic of the Day.

The other morning I was taking out the garbage, and as I was returning to the house, I saw these 2 watching me. I thought I'd take a picture. I didn't realize I'd be in the picture too. The sunlight on the wall inside the house looks like a raging fire.
Taken: May 2020.

tuxedo cat face

Saturday May 16, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Dexter up close on my lap. I was quite happy when I saw how this picture turned out. Only a small percentage of pictures capture the personality of the cat as I see them. This one captures Dexter perfectly.
Taken: May 2020.

tabby cat

Friday May 15, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Another picture that I wished I had dated. It is from about 1989 to 1991. This is Itty Bitty Kitty. He was a found stray cat. Itty had poor health right from the beginning. He passed away fairly young. This is a scan from a Polaroid Instamatic Print.
Taken: Around 1989 to 1991.

2 cats on a bed

Thursday May 14, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I really wish I had taken the time to write the date on the back of this photo print taken in the early 1990's. I know for sure it had to be before November 1993, and it had to be after 1989, but my best guess is this was taken in the fall of 1990 with some other pictures on my father's 1966 Asahi Pentax Spotmatic camera. This is Felemur (Lynx Point Siamese) and Xxaque (white cat) on the bed. These two, as you can guess, were best friends.
Taken: Early 1990's.

tuxedo cat with paintings

Wednesday May 13, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I'm fairly sure I've shown this picture before on this site, but when I was looking for another picture, I saw this one and just had to use it for the picture of the day. This is Cornelius sticking his tongue out at me while I'm taking his picture.
Taken: September 2003.

forest cat on table

Tuesday May 12, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This is Daisy. She is one of the 5 kittens and mom cat I ended up with in 2008 when the barn they lived in burned down. She is a barn cat from many, many generations of barn cats in a very cold, remote area of Central Ontario which is a very densly forested area. Daisy is a large cat of about 16-18 pounds. She is also the most nervous and shy cat I've ever had. I have very few pictures of her. Her fur is very long - over 4 inches long in places. Hard to tell in this picture, but Daisy is a thin cat.
Taken: September 2018.

tuxedo cats sunning in cat tree

Monday May 11, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fast forward 36 years from yesterday's picture, and we have Dexter and Avensby enjoying a sunny morning in the cat tree.
Taken: March 2020.

brown tabby close up face picture

Sunday May 10, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This is a scan of a film photo print of my cat Rotifer. This picture was taken on Christmas day, 1984. I found Rotifer in the summer of 1982 when out golfing with friends on a local golf course. I was never interested in golf, and in fact, the day I found Rotifer was the last time I ever golfed - and I never even finished that game. We went out on a Saturday morning and just before the green on the 2nd hole I think, there was a pond. My ball was near the pond, and when I went over, there was a soaking wet kitten right beside the pond crying and crying non-stop. There is a long story - too long for here - but the bottom line is, that I ended up stopping playing golf right then and there, and ended up with Rotifer. My friends were not impressed, and after that we drifted. I think that was the last time I saw them. He got the name because a "rotifer" is a type of microorganism living in pond water that has structures on each side of the head that (sort of) resemble the area of a cat's face where the whiskers come out. I had done a school biology project in the 1970's about rotifers, and so I was familiar with the name. That, plus I found him right beside a pond, and was wet - so I assume he had been in the water. Rotifer passed away when he was 17 years old in 1999.
Taken: December 1984.

tuxedo cat and tuxedo kitten

Saturday May 09, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Following on the theme of the last couple of days, here is Avensby when she was with the family for just over 2 weeks. Andi was not sure what to think when Avensby cuddled up beside her. I really got a laugh from the look and Andi's face here. It looks like she is putting the blame squarely on me for this situation, which is basically true. Notice Andi's Airplane Ears. Terrible quality photo, but the look on Andi's face makes this picture a keeper.
Taken: July 2016.

male cat taking care of kitten

Friday May 08, 2020 Pic of the Day.

After taking Avensby home (see yesterday's picture), Norton, one of my male cats, decided it was his job to be Avensby's surrogate parent. Norton was an amazing parent to Avensby. He groomed her, played with her, and he was very protective of her. She adored him. In this picture taken just a little over 2 weeks after I brought her home, Norton is cleaning Avensby after a meal. You can see she how happy she is here. This relationship changed me completely on how I viewed male cats. In fact, what I found shocking about this time with a new, feral kitten, was that the 3 male cats were very kind & caring toward her, while my female cats were comparatively not interested in having much to do with the kitten. Avensby won over some of the female cats, but not all. You can see a silly video I made of Norton & Avensby here, and a another short video with her, Norton and another male cat Leon here.
Taken: July 2016.

kittens in shed

Thursday May 07, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I've mentioned quite a few times on this site that my cat Avensby was born in my neighbour's garden shed to a feral mom. This is the first time I had seen Avensby in the shed where she was born & living - 2 days before I took her home. My neighbour didn't want me to take her, as she thought it was too soon, but then 2 days later changed her mind. Avensby is hiding behind the flower pots, with 2 of her siblings. By the way, I didn't name her Avensby until 3 days after this picture was taken. My neighbour had named her "Sparky".
Taken: June 2016.

silver abyssinian cat

Wednesday May 06, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Patty looking into the sunroom where she sees a cat she doesn't like. This is a good example of what I call Airplane Ears. In this case, her airplane ears combined with her looking right at the other cat means she is annoyed with the cat she is looking at. Patty is VERY emotional, and her moods can switch instantly if something changes in her environment. She is the exact opposite of my cat Andi who is close to the same age as Patty. Andi is remarkably stoic in the face of changes around her. By the way, Patty is silver, not grey. She is either a Silver Abyssinian or part Silver Abyssinian.
Taken: April 2018.

forest cat

Tuesday May 05, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Following yesterday's theme, this is a picture of Elly-May showing her interesting colours & pattern. This black patch is quite striking on her mainly white fur with a few large orange spots and a couple of black spots. Her tail is orange and black.
Taken: May 2020.

forest cat

Monday May 04, 2020 Pic of the Day.

One thing about Fiona that does not usually come through in pictures is her deep, rich colours. I took this picture back in February to show what I see when I look down at her back. This picture captures the colours and the quality of her fur as good as I could get. Fiona is quite tough to take pictures of as she is very restless, and moves constantly. I was trying to adjust the lighting and also trying to keep her from moving while I was taking the pictures. Also, just as a side note, my camera (a Sony A6000) has trouble focusing on her fur. With most cats, the camera focuses in quickly, but with Fiona, the camera autofocus keeps moving in and out trying to find focus. This is interesting because the Sony A6000 is renouned for being super fast and accurate at autofocus, which it normally is in my experience. It is close to being in focus here, but not quite perfect. There is something about Fiona's fur that confuses the camera.
Taken: February 2020.

tuxedo cat

Sunday May 03, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I don't know what day Avensby was born, but it was the end of April to the beginning of May 2016. She was born in a neighour's shed, and was discovered along with her siblings by the neighbour near the beginning of May 2016. I took Avensby in on June 29, 2016 and the vet confirmed she was right about 8 weeks old. So, this has been a roundabout way of saying: Happy birthday Avensby. I find it hard to believe my little kitten is 4 years old now.
Taken: April 2020.

two tuxedo cats

Saturday May 02, 2020 Pic of the Day.

In the mid afternoon, after working in the yard for a few hours, I went into the sunroom and sat down, and put my feet up on the old picnic table. Within a couple of minutes, this happened.
Taken: May 2020.

forest cat in basket

Friday May 01, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fiona is very happy the warmer weather season is here. She was not feeling well in March and early April, but she is doing better right now.
Taken: April 2020.
