2 cats in 2 baskets

Thursday April 30, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Two sweet basket babies. Fiona and Norton.
Taken: April 2020.

tuxedo cat in basket

Wednesday April 29, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Another picture of Margarita enjoying the morning sunlight. This time about a month earier than yesterday's picture. Margarita loves sunshine.
Taken: March 2020.

Dexter with his foot hanging out.
Taken: March 2020.

cat on man's chest

Sunday April 26, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Norton has started a habit in the past 6 months or so of flopping himself down on my upper chest and face whenever I lie down. And when I say flopping, I mean flopping. He walks onto my chest and basically throws himself onto his side toward my face. I happened to have my phone/camera in hand when he did this the other day. Not a good quality picture, but at least it shows what it looks like after his flopping. He often sweeps my glasses askew with his giant tail when he is lying on my chest, and that is exactly what happened before I took this picture. Norton really looks like a Maine Coon cat here. I've been told he isn't, but it sure looks like he may have had Maine Coon in his family tree.
Taken: April 2020.

2 cats enjoying the morning sunlight

Saturday April 25, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This was taken in late March at about 8:30 in the morning as the morning sun was coming in the east window near the cat tree. The sleigh on the cat tree is positioned so the cats can look out the window. Dexter is intently watching something outside - probably a squirrel. Avensby is on a shelf on the cat tree just resting in the sun's warmth. This picture reminds me of a scene in a TV show in the early 1970's called "Wild Kingdom". There was a shot of a cheetah on the savannah looking like Dexter is here in the morning sun while another cheetah was lying in the sun just enjoying it.
Taken: March 2020.

Cat in a cat cave

Friday April 24, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Last year I had purchased a cat cave. The cats used it as a cave once, then it was only used as a cushion to sleep on. Not a waste, but not the intended use either. Because the cats seemed to like to tunnel under blankets, I thought they would love a cat cave. Anyway, fast forward to yesterday, Dexter opened up the cave which had been the cushion on the sleigh on the cat tree. Last night, Fiona spied it open, and went to investigate. She actually settled in, so I took this picture. I did a review on the cat cave which you can see here.
Taken: April 2020.

Pheasant outside window

Thursday April 23, 2020 Pic of the Day.

On April first of this year, later in the afternoon I was sitting in my chair reading and noticed there were 4 cats in a row on the window shelf intently looking out the window in silence. At first I didn't make much of it, but after about 5 minutes of them staring and not moving, I became curious as to what they were looking at. I got up, and from behind the cats, I looked out. I was shocked to see a huge bird looking in at the cats. I think this is a Pheasant, but I'm not a bird expert. I live in the city, and this is the first time I've seen a Pheasant on my property. I think the bird was as taken with the cats as the cats were with the bird. When taking the picture, I didn't even notice the man walking down the street in rubber boots with what looks like a tool case. Its like the universe was having a laugh with me on April fools day. UPDATE: I got an e-mail pointing out that the bird was a female wild turkey. I looked it up, and I'm sure that is right.
Taken: April 2020.

six cats on couch

Wednesday April 22, 2020 Pic of the Day.

On the Monday, April 20 picture below I showed a picture of Elly-May. I looked back and found a picture of her (back of couch on right) with brother Leon (orange tabby) and her sisters Chessie (brown tabby), Andi (tuxedo) and Daisy (between Leon and Felemur). Their mom (her name is Mumma-Puma) is on the back of the couch on the left with her back to the camera. Felemur (beige lynx point siamese) is on the far left, and is almost 20 years old here. This picture is taken in the log cabin I lived in at the time which was in a vast wooded area in Central Ontario, Canada. The enduro dirt bike behind Elly-May was both for fun and emergency transportation in case my truck would not run. If you are interested in motorcycles, it is a 2006 GasGas EC300 made in Spain.
Taken: February 2009.

tuxedo cat

Tuesday April 21, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Good picture for showing Dexter's interesting colour pattern on his face.
Taken: April 2020.

forest cat

Monday April 20, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This picture shows the beautiful colours of Elly-May. She is the sister of Andi and Leon from the same litter. There are a few pictures of Leon and Andi in the pictures this month.
Taken: May 2015.

tuxedo kitten and tuxedo cat picture

Sunday April 19, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Another picture of Avensby when she was a kitten - this time when she was 9 weeks old. She is beside a picture of Cornelius. They never met as Cornelius passed away in 2011, and Avensby was born in 2016.
Taken: July 2016.

2 cats head to head sleeping on chair

Saturday April 18, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Kitten Avensby at 10 weeks old using Andi's paw as a pillow. They are not related in any way other than being cats. Andi was from a barn in Central Ontario, in a heavily forested region of Ontario, and Avensby was born in the city in my next door neighour's shed to a feral mom.
Taken: July 2016.

2 cats head to head sleeping on chair

Friday April 17, 2020 Pic of the Day.

When looking for pictures of Leon and Fiona for yesterday's picture, I ran across this one of Leon with his sister Andi. They were close right from when they were kittens. A nice coincidence is this picture was taken on Valentine's day of 2013. They would have been about 4 1/2 years old here.
Taken: February 2013.

2 cats in a basket

Thursday April 16, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I mentioned in the April 14 picture that Fiona and Leon where inseperable, and I found a picture of those two from April 2018 in the basket on the cat tree. This picture was taken at night without a flash, so the colours are washed out. By the way, that is not perspective - Fiona really is a tiny cat.
Taken: April 2018.

tuxedo cat grey tabby playing

Wednesday April 15, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Avensby and Norton playing. The chair is on the trunk for cats to get up to the window shelf where Fiona is. You can see I've turned my house into a cat playground.
Taken: October 2018.

orange tabby cat

Tuesday April 14, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Leon on the sleigh on the side of the cat tree in the morning sun. I've been thinking of Leon lately, as I miss him, but also because he and Fiona were inseperable until Leon passed away in the summer of 2018, and Fiona has not been well lately (see the Saturday, April 11 picture below).
Taken: April 2018.

cat yawning

Monday April 13, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Now that's a yawn. I like the way Norton's eyes look like crescent moons - just like in cartoons when they draw someone yawning. Norton's pal Dexter in behind.
Taken: June 2019.

cat in easter basket

Sunday April 12, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Look what I brought home in my Easter egg basket when I was out looking for Easter eggs. Andi makes for a sweet bunny.
Taken: February 2020.

cat in dog pen

Saturday April 11, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fiona has been sick lately. She's been to the vet 5 times in the last month. I'm keeping her in the dog pen to stop her from moving around too much, and to stop the other cats from bothering her. She has her own water, food and litter box in the pen. The basket is lined with a fleece blanket. I had to move her food to the middle when I caught another cat reaching in and pulling food out! Even when not feeling well, Fiona is just so cute.
Taken: April 2020.

2 cat friends

Friday April 10, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I thought I would show another picture of Norton and Dexter. It is fun for me to watch these two hang out together. I only have two male cats, and they have become very close friends. In this picture they were squirrel watching. By the way, if you know cats, you can see that Dexter's ears are in a position indicating he is listening to what is going on behind him - me taking the picture. I call this ear positioning "airplane ears". If you see that from behind, it means they are aware something is going on behind them. If they are facing you and you get the airplane ears, it means they are either confused, slightly annoyed or a mix of both. If confused, they tend to look to one side with the airplane ears, if they are looking right into your eyes with airplane ears, it ususally means annoyed.
Taken: March 2020.

2 cat friends

Thursday April 09, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I've shown a few pictures of these two friends together. Norton (Grey) & Dexter (Tuxedo). They often will groom the top of each other's head and face - where they can't groom themselves easily. This picture was taken on Valentine's Day, or as it is known in my house: Margarita day, as that is the day in 2014 I got my cat Margarita. And speaking of Margarita, that is Margarita's ears you can see in the basket behind Norton.
Taken: February 2020.

tuxedo cat in cat tree

Wednesday April 08, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Avensby in the cat tree looking at another cat with a wary look in her eyes.
Taken: February 2020.

tuxedo cat in cat tree basket

Tuesday April 07, 2020 Pic of the Day.

This is Andi. She is in the cat tree, in one of the baskets on the top that is about 2 meters or 6 1/2 feet high off the ground at the top edge. I could not see Andi, just the top of her ear. I lifted the camera above my head, put it inside the basket aimed at where I thought Andi's face was, and took this picture. I had no idea of the expression on Andi's face when I took this picture. It must have been a bit of a shock for Andi when suddenly there was this object (the camera) appearing in the basket. I guess I woke her up when I was taking the picture. What a way to wake up!
Taken: February 2020.

Green eyed forest cat

Monday April 06, 2020 Pic of the Day.

I found another picture that shows the beautiful green colour of Fiona's eyes. Her fur colouring is beautiful too. Hard to believe she was a feral cat when I found her.
Taken: February 2020.

Green eyed forest cat

Sunday April 05, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Fiona in a basket on the window shelf. I love the colour of her eyes, and this picture brings the colour out well.
Taken: March 2020.

cat upsidedown in basket

Saturday April 04, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Dexter in the basket, Norton in the background. Dexter sleeps like this all the time, but 95% of the time, when I see him doing this and get out the camera, he rights himself to see what I'm doing and I miss the picture. I got lucky here.
Taken: March 2020.

2 tuxedo cats enjoying the sun in baskets

Friday April 03, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Margarita grooming herself while Avesnby watches me take pictues.
Taken: March 2020.

6 cats enjoying the sun

Thursday April 02, 2020 Pic of the Day.

A pleasant looking cat morning. Not sure where the other cats were, but these 6 are looking content in the morning sun.
Taken: April 2014.

tuxedo cat on back stretched out

Wednesday April 01, 2020 Pic of the Day.

Dexter was a feral, 4 year old tomcat when I got him in February of 2012. This picture is taken about 6 weeks later. If this picture is anything to go by, Dexter adjusted well to the pampered home life.
Taken: April 2012.
