I did not notice Fiona in the background until I looked at this picture on my computer.

Monday March 30, 2020 Pic of the Day.
One day when I was preparing an avacado to eat, I realized that the colour of the flesh inside an avacado was exactly the same colour as Avensby's eyes. Interestingly, Avensby's eyes are light yellow with a slightly more greenish tone near the pupil, whereas the avacaco is light yellow in the area around the seed, and turning slightly more greenish near the edges - the reverse. I tried taking many pictures, and this is the best, but still does not do a great job of showing the exact match in colour that I see in real life.

Sunday March 29, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Avensby poking her head out of her asperagus box to see what I was up to. What I was up to was taking pictures of her, and her doing this made for this one really sweet picture of her.

I had forgotten about this picture, but as soon as I saw it, I remember taking it. This is one of the reasons I like taking pictures - they give you back moments you would have otherwise lost. That's Dexter on my computer scanner, and Cornelius in the picture and on the computer screen. If anyone could doubt I'm a cat person, this picture would put that notion to rest.

Andi is a very sweet, gentle and confident cat. She is also a brilliant communicator with her facial expressions, and with them she can tell you exactly what she wants to say, and sometimes she wants me to stop taking her picture. She had just settled in on the blanket, and I wanted to get a picture of her face up close. Before this picture, she was looking like she was meditating and I thought it would make a nice picture, but when I put the camera in front of her, I got this look of pure annoyance.

Thursday March 26, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I fell asleep one evening on my zero gravity chair, and when I woke up, it was dark and there were 3 cats sleeping on my lap in one big pile. I slowly reached for my camera phone and took this picture.

Cat tree happenings. Avensby is the tuxedo on the lower left, Fiona is in the middle behind, and Dexter is on the upper right just behind the post. Notice the look on Fiona's face as she is looking at Avensby. For some reason, those two just don't get along. Cat politics.

I messed this picture up, not centering Norton correctly. He was resting on my lap like this, and I tried holding the camera in my right hand as far out as I could and took the picture. Sadly, I had the angle too high, and he ended up not being in the centre of the picture. Still, it shows how cute Norton can be. He does silly things like this a lot.

Monday March 23, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Left front is Avensby, left rear is Andi, right front is Patty, right rear is Margarita. On the March 21 picture of the day I mentioned Margarita always has an interesting look in her eyes. I wish this picture had better focus, but the subject is more important than the technicals to me, and this is a sweet picture.

Sunday March 22, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Last Sunday, March 15, the picture of the day was the kitten Leon with the nearly 20 year old Lynx Point Siamese Felemur. I mentioned that Leon had such a joyful personality, and that he always seemed to have a smile on his face. This picture is basically 9 years later with Avensby beside Leon. First off, Avensby is a full grown 2 year old here, but she is a very small cat. Leon is a normal to maybe slightly larger than average male. What a difference in size. Avensby and Leon were very close. However, this is a bittersweet picture for me. Leon looks happy as usual here, but you can tell Leon is not well, and about 5 months later, he died of Pancreatic Cancer. His sister Chessie and mom also died of that. Even when he was very sick, he was sweet and loving. He died a month before he turned 9. I miss Leon and his joyful quality.

This is from about 2 years ago. Margarita is so different in personality from most cats I've known, I've wondered if she is from a completely different species of cat. I'm not serious about that, but she really is different. The look in her eyes is always interesting. It took me 4 years to win over her trust, a longer time by a huge stretch than any other cat. She is still quite "wild", but also very warm. Whenever she looks at me, I get the feeling she knows more about life than I could ever hope to. To repeat a story I've told before on this site, when I feed the cats, she chooses the spot she will eat. She sometimes will choose the same spot for a few days, then suddenly it changes. If you put the food down - even a few inches - away from her, she just stares at you until you put it under her, then she starts to eat. She will not move - you have to comply with her choice of spot.

I was looking at pictures from March of last year, and found this one of Avensby sunning herself under the lamp on the end table. No story with this one, I just like this picture of her.

Thursday March 19, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Taken in March of 2006. I actually remember taking this picture. It was a cool day, but with the sun, and being March, it was a treat to be out on the deck. The cement of the deck was still very cold, so I put down my jacket for Cornelius to lie on so he could enjoy the sun.

Wednesday March 18, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I showed a picture of Fiona for the March 05 picture of the day after she had come back from the vet for the 2nd emergency visit in 2 days. She was worn out. I took this picture on the evening of March 15 just as we were going to bed for the night.

Today is Patty day for me. I found Patty on March 17, 2010, and named her Patty because of that. If she had been a boy, she would have been named Paddy. Patty sits and even sleeps in the oddest positions. Patty is so flexible, she feels like a bag of water when you pick her up. I've actually got a picture of her sleeping on her back in a hollow, using her own stomach as a pillow. The tuxedo with her back to the camera is Margarita.

Another picture from 2009. This is Leon (orange tabby) and Andi (tuxedo). They are about 3 month old brother and sister playing on my couch in the log cabin I lived in.

Sunday March 15, 2020 Pic of the Day.
When looking for yesterday's picture, I ran across this one of Leon (Orange Tabby kitten) and Felemur (Lynx Point Siamese). Felemur was only a couple of months away from being 20 years old here. He died about 3 weeks after this picture was taken. Leon and the other kittens often cuddled with Felemur and it brought him happiness. Leon passed away in 2018, so both are gone now. I always liked the way Leon had a smile on his face. He had such a joyful personality. This picture is in the log cabin I lived in. Felemur liked to lie in front of the woodstove.

Saturday March 14, 2020 Pic of the Day.
For the Tuesday, March 10 picture of the day, I showed a picture taken in August of 2018 of the mom cat named Mumma-Puma with two of the 5 kittens from her final litter - the tuxedo Andi and the forest cat looking Elly-May. It took me a few days, but I finally found a picture of just those 3 from 2009 when the two daughters were just 3 month old kittens and Mumma-Puma would have been about 4 1/2 years old. The pictures are 9 1/2 years apart.

This was taken last night. It is Avensby. Even though the lighting wasn't good, I like this picture of her sleeping.

Two daughters and the mom cat. Elly-May on the left, Andi in the middle, and the mom named Mumma-Puma lying down on the right. A beautiful summer evening. The two daughters are almost 10 years old here and the mom is 14 in this picture.

Monday March 09, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Avensby has really nice whiskers. The way they are shaped reminds me of a "Fu Manchu moustache". Over the years, I've discovered that it is really hard to get good, clear pictures that highlight cat's whiskers.

Avensby seems to be thinking up a devious plan in this picture. This is in the sunroom by the door on a warm, sunny, summer evening.

Thursday March 05, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I had to rush Fiona to the vet twice last week. So far, she seems to be getting better. This picture was taken the day after her second visit to the vet. I think the combination of being sick, having to go for car rides in the cat carrier and having very intrusive medical proceedures done, plus medication just wore her out completely. This picture is taken when we went to bed on Sunday night. I don't think I've ever seen a more worn out look on a cat's face. By the way, that's Dexter in the background.

Wednesday March 04, 2020 Pic of the Day.
In my job, I go to many retirement & nursing homes. There is one I go to regularly where the residents put finished jigsaw puzzles on their doors. I was walking down the hall and saw this one. Of course, I just had to take a picture.

Genuine pals. Norton and Dexter. This is not unusual for these two. Look here for another picture.

Norton looks genuinly confused by this toy cat that looks like him. I was out with friends checking out a nice gift store in a local small town, and I saw this toy cat, and grabbed my friends to show them I found a cat that looked like Norton. One of them bought it for me as a gift, and I was so thrilled. I brought it home, put it beside Norton and took this picture. Now I have a Norton and a Mini-Norton.
