Fiona on Christmas day 2019 on the window shelf. Since this is leap year, and today is leap day, I thought I'd show a picture of my most leapy cat. Fiona is tiny, and leaps everywhere.

Leon enjoying the view on a nice October day from the sunroom. Leon was one of two cats that would sit like this. He would stay like this for a surprisingly long time.

You have to look carefully. Xxaque was pure white. One vet told me he was albino, another said because his eyes were yellow, he was just a pure white cat. It doesn't matter, but he was so white that on snow he would just disappear unless he moved. One of his nicknames was "The ghost cat", and this picture captures why. It's a good thing he wore a red collar. This is a detail of a scan of a Polaroid Instant camera picture taken in October of 1999. He is on my garden tool shed in my back yard surrounded by Aloe Vera plants. The scattered yellow in the background is the remaining yellow leaves on the Manitoba Maple trees in the yards that were prevalent in the area I lived.

Following on yesterday's theme of looking back 1, 2, 3, etc. years, this picture is from 1 year to the day. I find it very relaxing when the cats get up on my lap and sleep. Andi is the Tuxedo, Patty is the Silver Abyssinian.

Every once in a while, I go back and look at pictures from 1 year ago, 2 years ago, etc. This one is from 2 years ago. This is Leon in the cat tree watching either birds or squirrels out of the nearby window. This is just before I attached the sleigh to the side of the cat tree.

A picture of Avensby relaxing beside me just before going to sleep. Because Avensby is used to cameras right from a kitten, I am able to get pictures of her in very natural states. Avensby also has a commanding & confident personality that I think comes across here.

Elly-May has a cute goatee like chin colouring. That has been very hard to get a decent picture of. Elly-May is not cooperative when it comes to pictures normally, but she was in the right mood here. Patty in the background watching the process of me getting the picture.

From 20 years ago, taken with my first digital camera. This is the full resolution of the picture. Xxaque (white cat) and Felemur (lynx point siamese) sleeping between the washer and dryer. I say sleeping, but Felemur is keeping an eye or two on me.

If you take as many pictures as I do of cats, you sometimes get an unexpected result. This is an odd shot, and the second time this has happened. Look here to see a picture of Leon doing the same thing as Dexter is here. It is even on the same side of the face/nose.

Fiona watching another cat (Avensby) that she does not trust. I felt really lucky to capture this look on her face looking down from the basket on the cat tree to the top shelf of the cat tree where Avensby was sitting looking up at Fiona. The reason I felt lucky, is that it is very rare for a cat to forget you are there with a camera.

Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of Margarita joining the family. She was a very sad, nervous cat back then. She has become very happy and self confident over the past 6 years. This is her yesterday, on Margarita Day 2020, sleeping on my lap using my hand as a pillow.

Happy Margarita Day! On February 14, 2014 I brought home Margarita. It's a bit of a story how I eneded up with her, but the important thing is, she found a home. She was a mess psychologically when I got her. My vet said she would have been about 2 years old. Whenever I take in a new cat, I put them in this dog pen suspended from the ceiling. This way the new cat is looking down on the rest of the family, and does not get intimidated. The other cats and the new cat get used to the idea & smell of each other without any possibility of a negative event like a fight. I take the new cat for many outings that are closely supervised, but they go back into the pen in between. It depends on the new cat how long this takes. With Margarita, it took a few days because she was not open to the idea of other cats. In the pen she has her own litter box, water & gets fed in there too.

Following with yesterday's theme, this is Dexter just a few days ago. He has gone from an insecure, unhappy cat when I brought him home 8 years ago (yesterday's picture), to a very happy, very confident cat who enjoys life fully.

This picture is taken exactly 8 years ago today. On Saturday February 11, 2012, I brought Dexter home. It was a cold, windy, snowy day. He was a 4 year old feral Tomcat. This picture was taken the next morning - February 12, 2012. When I went to bed on the night I got him, he got up on my chest and would not let go. He spent the entire night clamped to my chest. I even remember having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and had to do it with Dexter clinging onto me, and me bracing him. After I took this picture just before 9am on the morning of February 12, I decided to rearrange my day to be with Dexter every minute. I knew he was feeling very insecure, and I wanted to let him stay stuck to me. I started watching movies on my computer with him on my lap. The first movie we watched was "Tron" from 1982. Dexter was completely captivated my the moving images on the screen, and watched the movie from beginning to end - and he barely moved. Because of that, he has the nickname "Tron". It morphed over time to "Dextron the Catron from the planet Tron". To this day, I call him Tron more than I call him Dexter. He knows both names are his. By the way, his tail really was - and is - amazing. This is not just due to photographic perspective.

The cats just love this red and white snowflake blanket. It is polyester "Sherpa Fleece". This is Avensby after she had tunneled into a fold in the blanket, and was coming back out. Avensby is close to 4 years old here. To me, she still has a "kitten" look. I guess that's because she is both tiny and filled with kitten energy. You can see a short video of Avensby when I first got her at the end of June 2016 here.

Monday February 10, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Yesterday, I mentioned that the kittens loved to play with Cornelius, and he loved playing with them. I found this picture when two of the kittens (Leon, the orange tabby on the left, and Daisy, the fluffy forest cat on the right) were playing with Mumma-Puma (the kitten's mom cat) and Cornelius. The kittens were over 6 months old here, and Mumma-Puma was about 4 1/2 years. As was often the case, they were so taken with Cornelius, that they would just stop and watch him. I understand this, as I found Cornelius so captivating to watch too. Pictures cannot convey the command of the room Cornelius would have due not just to his size, but the presence of his personality. I say it so often, but I've never met a cat like him before or since.

In yesterday's pic-of-the-day, I said Cornelius was a very large cat. The problem with that picture is there is no scale. I found this picture of Cornelius on the couch with three other "normal" sized cats. The calico cat (her name was Mumma-Puma) was a good sized cat that weighed about 12 pounds, and she was 4 1/2 years old here. Just look at the size of Cornelius' head compared to the other cats. I used to call him "Giant Cornelius", and you can see why. He was in the range of 26 to 28 pounds here. On the far left is Felemur, a Lynx Point Siamese who was almost 20 years old here, and the brown tabby is Chessie who was a daughter of Mumma-Puma from Mumma's last litter. I've mentioned this many times, but Mumma-Puma and her 5 kittens adored Cornelius. And Cornelius treated them all with love and respect even though they came into his home. He did not display a hint of jealousy, and in fact, Cornelius thought the kittens were fantastic, and it brought life back to him in his later years. The kittens would tire him out when he would play with them. When he got tired, he would lie on the floor where they were playing, and they would play around him, and leap on him all to his great pleasure. I remember when Mumma-Puma first saw Cornelius after I brought her into the house. Her eyes went fully dilated, and I think she was quite frightened. I don't think she had ever seen a cat that large. In this picture, you can see her doing what she did a lot - she would just watch Cornelius with adoration.

Cornelius was a very large cat. When he was very thin, he weighed about 18 pounds. When he looked about the right weight, he was around 22 pounds. In this picture he was too heavy, and weighed about 26-28 pounds. He was a found feral cat that was very sick, and the vet put him on prednisone. He gained weight like people do when on steroids such as prednisone. It did help with his breathing issues, but the weight problem was ongoing right until the very end. All this is very sad for me, but he was such a great friend that it was all worth it.

This is an interesting look on Avensby's face. She had just eaten and had been playing before that. She settled in to this basket, and set her chin on the edge. I got my camera and took this picture. I really don't know what to call this look.

I was at a person's home the other day, when I saw this cat on the floor in front of their electric fireplace. I asked if that was a small cat or a kitten. She said to me to go over and look. When I got over to this cat, I touched it and I was shocked. This is the first time in my life that I've been fooled by a stuffed animal toy. The woman told me there used to be matching kittens to go with it, but a friend's dog got them and destroyed them. That's really too bad, but this is still the most realistic stuffed toy cat I've ever seen.

I was at at thrift store last Friday and found this basket. As soon as I saw it, It thought of Dexter. When I got home, I put a blanket in it, and put it in this window. Within seconds, Dexter was in it and enjoying the view.

I was so concentrating on taking pictures of Avensby in her asperagus box, that I didn't notice Norton checking out what was going on. This is taken at night without flash and only a couple of LED lights in the room.

This picture is taken from the inside of the house through the hole that the cats could use to go to the stage 1 cat pen in the log cabin. Cornelius is having a drink of water. You can see this pen from the outside and read the story about the different stages of pens here.
