Cornelius inside a Bobcat skidsteer in the spring of 2007. I had rented the Bobcat for a week to reshape the yard around the log cabin I lived in. It is a very long story as to why, but if you are interested, you can read the story of reshaping the yard here. You can read the whole story starting here. Cornelius watched me from the house while I was in the Bobcat, and as soon as I stopped, I took Cornelius for a walk. He beelined it for the Bobcat and wanted to see what this thing was I was driving around the yard all day in.

This is the old dresser I use for preparing the cat's food. The cats know this is where their food is prepared and put into dishes. I feed the cats 5 small meals per day, and each cat's meal is in an individual dish. After I put the dishes down, I have to watch to make sure nobody tries to steal another cat's food. I can't just put food down in one big bowl because I have a couple of "foodies" that will eat and eat and get fat, while some are "pickers" who just have a nibble now and then if food is always available. Anyway, one day I got home later than expected, and I was late for a feeding by about half an hour. When I walked into the room, these two were waiting for me right where I get the food ready. I got a laugh out of this. Avensby (Tuxedo) and Elly-May (Forest Cat).

I like it when the cats pile up on me. The Tuxedo is Margarita, the Silver Abyssinian is Patty, and the Maine Coon looking cat is Norton. I say Main Coon looking, as he was a feral cat (like every one of my cats) born in a neighbor's shed, and I don't know much about him other than that. People have looked at him and said he is at least part Maine Coon, others have said he is a Forest Cat, I've even been informed he might be part Ragdoll. Though I'm a cat person, I'm not up at all on breeds, so I really can't say what Norton is. He is bigger than most cats, so I'd said part Maine Coon or part Forest Cat makes sense as those tend to be larger cats. That said, one of my smallest cats is a Forest Cat, so who knows. Whatever he is, Norton is very snuggly.

After Christmas, I got a snowflake fleece blanket on sale. I really like it, but the cats are in love with it. It even has a calming effect on them when I unroll it at night. They get on it slowly and pummel it for a while before settling in.

Today is the 2 year anniversary of the passing of my sweet Chessie Cat. She was incredibly sweet without a hint of a temper or aggression. I almost named her "Plush" because her coat was so thick, soft & plush. This picture is of her on a shelf I made for the cats on the wall of the log cabin we lived in.

There are good pictures and there are "interesting" pictures. Maybe only to me, but this is one of those interesting pictures. Avensby in the cat tent the cats got for Christmas 2018. She sure looks proud of her tent. I say her tent because even though it was for all the cats, Avensby would get upset if another cat was in it, and she would chase them out. Funny thing is, she is a tiny cat compared to the others, but they do as she says. Queen bee syndrome.

The Sunday January 19 picture of the day was Leon in the dog pen when he got back from the vet. This is over 3 years later with Dexter in the same pen for the same reason. There is an explanation of why I use the dog pen in the description on the January 19 picture.

I find cat's faces endlessly fascinating. Because of that, I try and get pictures close up of cat's faces that I can look at carefully. Backlit pictures like this one are great for showing details like their whiskers in this case. Andi is an aware cat, and that can also be seen here. This is one of those pictures that I wish I had used my good camera, not my phone's camera. But, I was in my chair with Andi on my lap, and I was lucky to already have my phone in hand.

I stumbled across this picture when looking for another one. Leon is in the pen here because he had just come back from the vet and she had asked me to keep him quiet and not to let him play with the other cats. Whenever a cat is unwell, they go into this dog pen on the trunk. This way, they are still with the family, but cannot be bothered, and are forced to keep still. In the pen is water & a litter box, as well as bedding and food when it's time to eat. This particular picture is interesting because Leon's mom is the calico cat just on the floor on the left side of the picture. She was pacing around because her son was locked up in the pen and was not happy about this. Dexter, Leon's pal for rough playing is on the floor on the right side. He wanted to play with Leon. Patty is on the mantle of the fireplace and is looking in on Leon. She and Leon were close. Patty does not make friends easily, and at this time, Leon was about the only cat she was close with. So, Leon is in the pen and his mom and two friends are with him. Not that different than a person when in the hospital. Also of note is the way Leon is looking at me with a sad and confused look. He does not understand why this is happening to him.

Elly-May in the sunroom. Elly-May is difficult to get a picture of because she is camera shy. I don't know if she is aware of what I am doing when I'm trying to take her picture, but she acts like a person who does not want their picture taken. I got lucky here because she was more concerned about Avensby on the table just out of shot. If you can read expressions on cat's faces, I think you know what Elly-May thinks of Avensby.

Andi is trying to relax and sleep while Avensby full of energy looking for trouble. Andi knows Avensby is right below her and you can see by the look on Andi's face, she is not impressed. Andi is 11, whereas Avensby is 3 1/2 years old.

Felted wool Cornelius by Acacia Thiessen. This was a Christmas gift given to me the past Christmas. It was made on commission for me based on pictures of Cornelius. I am just taken with this felted wool Cornelius. If you want to see more pictures of it, go to the Cats In Art page here.

My sweet Andi cat. Andi was on the bedding with me when I took yesterday's picture. She was intently watching me take pictures of Avensby under the blankets, when I turned the camera (phone) on her and took this. I like it when it captures a look on their face. I call this look the: "What are you up to now?" expression.

Avensby last night under a blanket. This is a lucky shot. I actually could not see her from my angle, so I took my camera (phone) and put it in front of where I could see her paws sticking out and took the picture. I was happily surprised to see it captured her face and looking at the camera.

Many times people would comment how beautiful Cornelius' fur coat was. The other day somebody menitioned how much sheen their cat's coat has. It reminded me of this picture of Cornelius, but it took me a bit to find it.

Cornelius always loved spending time snoozing in front of the woodstove. I don't think it is possible for anyone to look more comfortable.

Dexter is a very determined & bold cat. I like that, but sometimes his determination is to do things that conflict with the other cats and me. He is a handful for sure. But because he is intellegent and quite warm, he is overall a very fun cat to live with. That said, I could not handle more than one Dexter, as his destructive ability is amazing. He is 11 years old in this picture, and to my surprise, he has not slowed down the slightest bit like my other 11 year old cats. He can still catch me off guard by jumping up onto my shoulder from the floor when I walk by. I am tall, so this is quite the feat. The bottom of the window in my bathroom is just a little lower than my chin, and many times I've see Dexter leap into the window from the floor. There is a graceful, effortless quality to the way he moves that makes it look like he is floating up.

This is Dexter peeking out from a blanket on the coffee table. I've said before, that I have many thousands of pictures of my cats I've taken since the year 2000 when I got my first digital camera. I would guess by now, I have 65 to 70 thousand cat pictues I've taken. With so many, I forget many of them, and even though I go through my pictures every day, there are many I have not seen since I've taken them, or shortly afterwards. I have no recollection of taking this one. I don't know if I set this up, or if Dexter did this and I just took the picture. He does have a habit of getting under blankets, and even lifts my shirt when I'm lying down and crawls into it and lies down on me. It doesn't matter, I love this picture of Dexter, and it certainly captures his true nature.

I've shown other pictures of Patty resting this way. I get a kick out her when she rests like this. It is always on the corner of a table or shelf, with the corner itself supporting her chest, with one front leg on either side of the corner.

Did I hear you say it's January 01, 2020? I better get up and start the new year off right. That's right Avensby - it's 2020 and time for a fresh start in your adventures.
