Friday July 31, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I have the basement fenced off so the cats can't get into it as I do a lot of work there that could be dangerous to the cats. They love to watch what I'm up to while I'm there. Avensby is the only cat that fit her head right through the mesh, and that is how she likes to watch. She is endlessly fascinated by what I do, and will watch for surprisingly long periods of time while I work. I took this picture yesterday while setting up my new smartphone. And by the way, her whiskers really are quite oversized for her body size and truly spectacular.

Dexter (tuxedo) and Norton. They are very close friends. Norton fell asleep on Dexter's front legs using them as a pillow. This picture was taken in low light with an older smartphone, so that's why the quality is so-so. When something like this happens, I just grab the closest camera, as I'm never sure how long it will last.

Another picture from July of 2018. Cats, like people, enjoy warm weather by relaxing outdoors (or sort-of-outdoors like in a sunroom).

Tuesday July 28, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I decided to look at pictures from July of 2018 and found this one. Six cats in a sunroom. This picture is taken through the window of the door, and I have to admit that I tapped on the glass to get them all looking at me.

This picture is fascinating to me personally. This was taken in the house I lived in until 2004. I associate this house with Cornelius, and the time living there was all about Cornelius. This was my favorite couch that we found in the garbage in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada back in the late 1980's. It was actually in great shape when we got it. I brought it home tied to the roof of my 1984 Subaru station wagon to where I lived in London - about an hour or more away by backroads. I had Cornelius for 11 months in this picture. The book on the left is an early 1970's photo book of cats taken with their famous owners. The people in this book were famous in the 1960's, 1950's and even before. Now that I've seen this picture, I'll try and find the book and do a story on it in the website when I get a chance. A very interesting book for those that appreciate cats.

I like this picture of Avensby.
Taken: December 2019.
Saturday July 25, 2020 Pic of the Day.
By the look in Andi's eyes, I don't think she is thrilled with the camera in her face while she is trying to sleep. Nice matching nose and toes. That's Leon in behind cleaning his mom, Mumma-Puma. Leon always took care of his mom after he was about 1 year old. Also, Andi and Leon are siblings from the same litter, so this is a family shot.

Friday July 24, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Felemur, the Lynx Point Siamese cat on the left was 14 years old here, and Cornelius, the Tuxedo, was about 5, but I had him for only 7 months. Cornelius was a feral tomcat when found. Cornelius tried his best to become friends with Felemur. Felemur would barely tolerate Cornelius. Sadly, over time, Cornelius realized Felemur was not interested in being friends with him and stopped trying. This picture was taken when Cornelius was making a big effort to be friends.

Thursday July 23, 2020 Pic of the Day.
A few cats on my bed. Too bad I was using a very poor quality camera at the time.
Taken: July 2015.
Wednesday July 22, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Dexter became quite curious as I was adjusting the camera. I think what got his attention was the sound and look of the camera lens moving in and out when I was zooming the camera.

Cornelius was an indoor cat, but I used to take him for walks. He was amazing - he would walk along with you in a slow, calm manner. In this picture we were walking along the path through my gardens and Cornelius stopped for a quick scratching break.

Saturday July 18, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This is Avensby, but most of the cats at one time or another sleep like this when in a basket. Great picture taking opportunity.
Taken: May 2020.
Friday July 17, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Norton enjoying time in the basket on the shelf by the window. In the basket behind Norton is Fiona. She is looking out the window, and what we are seeing is the back of her head and neck.

Thursday July 16, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Mother and son picture. Mumma-Puma on the left, and Leon on the right. Mumma-Puma and Leon were always close. This is a crop of a picture taken from a distance through glass, and that's why the quality of the picture is so poor. Like anyone, I like clear, high quality pictures, but if the subject is special to me, I can live with the picture quality being less than stellar.
Taken: July 2018.
Wednesday July 15, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Looking through the pictures, I saw this one. Taken 2 years ago, this is a picture of the cats in the sunroom through the glass. The mixing of the reflections from outside and the light from inside create this odd mix. There are 5 cats in this picture - you can just see a bit of Leon in the upper left.

Monday July 13, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This picture was taken a few moments after yesterday's picture. Dexter placed his forehead against my arm and fell asleep.

Sunday July 12, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Dexter got up on my lap, then proceeded to rest his chin on my left arm. Luckily for me, I had my phone in my right hand and was able to take this picture of him.

Nice picture of Margarita. She is not thrilled that I'm taking her picture.

Friday July 10, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This is a lucky picture. I was taking pictures of Avensby on the top shelf of the home-made cat tree. I had my camera set to automatically keep taking two pictures per second. I was trying to capture her looking cute & watching me take the pictures. However, she had just eaten and was sleepy. The picture before this, she was awake. In the picture after this she is asleep. This picture just happened to capture the very moment of transition from being awake to being asleep.

Thursday July 09, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Norton and Andi. Norton's big tail over the edge. If that tail was Andi's, that would be quite the coat colouring - a tuxedo cat with a big, grey/black/beige tail.

Wednesday July 08, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Love the look on Avensby's face. Very content, in-charge looking. Avensby has a strong sense of self, and is naturally quite aware. Dexter in behind on the table.

Tuesday July 07, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This is normally the basket that Fiona likes to sleep in. I was taking pictures of Avensby in the basket when Fiona jumped up. She got this disappointed look when she saw Avensby in "her" basket. There is a slow moving game of musical chairs when it comes to who has ownership of each basket. There are more than enough, but like us, they get attached to a habit or routine, and don't like it when their spot is taken by someone else. Then, it can all shift, and start again in a new spot. Cat politics. It worked out for me - I got this picture.

Monday July 06, 2020 Pic of the Day.
I love seeing these two together. To me, they look great together. Something about their colours and fluffy quality. Norton on the left, Fiona on the right. Fiona is a small cat, and that is obvious here. Though Norton looks like a Maine Coon, he is a fairly normal sized cat for a male.

Sunday July 05, 2020 Pic of the Day.
Yet another picture of Avensby in her asperagus box.
Taken: December 2019.
Saturday July 04, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This was taken late afternoon two days ago. It was a hot, sunny day, and I was walking by the sunroom door and saw these two passed out on the glass table enjoying the heat and light. The windows are open, and there was a breeze flowing through. They had just eaten about half an hour before this picture was taken, so I don't think it gets too much better if you're a cat. Norton & Avensby.

I'm having fun looking through old pictures taken long before digital cameras. This is a scan of a Polaroid Instamatic picture of Felemur when he was quite young (he lived to 20), sitting on the top board of a wooden fence among Grape vines (lower left) and Mulberry trees (upper right). Nice to see Felemur looking so young.

I've mentioned a few times on this website that we raised a baby squirrel we named Spike. Somehow, Spike was left without a mom, and so we took her in and raised her. She was bottle fed for a while on a formula we bought for that purpose from either a vet or pet food store - I forget which one now as it's so long ago. Spike lived in the bathtub in a nest she made with toilet paper. She was very good at unwinding the rolls and making a padded nest that almost filled the tub. Here is me with Spike on my lap while Felemur the Lynx Point Siamese watches. Felemur was 12 years old here. Spike and the cats got along well. Spike moved out of the house in the late summer of 2001, but would come back and visit almost daily until late 2005. You can see a short video in July 2005 of Cornelius with Spike here: Spike and Cornelius. .

Wednesday July 01, 2020 Pic of the Day.
This is 1 week after yesterday's picture, and this is one of the first times Avensby ate her meal with some of the other cats.
Taken: July 2016.
