I'll end this month with a look at Fiona's wonky whiskers. Fiona is quite tiny and she has long, curly whiskers that are hard to photograph unless you can get a picture of her backlit like this. By the way, there are 6 cats in this picture.

This is Sugar Bear. This cute picture was e-mailed to me showing what looks like Sugar Bear about to be pounced on by the cement cat on the step. Sugar Bear is 10-11 years old in this picture.

Three cats in the sunroom. Enjoying a sunny, warm fall day.

Andi in the cat tree basket. Andi has pretty green eyes, and I like her bright pink nose.

I get occasional notifications on my Android phone showing me pictures from 1 or 2 years ago to the day. Here is one of the pictures from September 24, 2017. The sense of slippage of time is extreme for me here. I feel like this picture was taken just a few short weeks ago. Leon in the foreground has been gone for over a year however, and Avensby (tuxedo) was only 16 months old here, and now she is 3 years & 4 months old.

Another picture from 2005. When I look at this picture, the time I took it comes right back to me. It's nice for me to see these two happy together. The Lynx Point Siamese cat is Felemur who is 16 years old in this picture. The tuxedo cat is Cornelius, who would have been 7 here.
Taken: July 2005.

Back in the spring of 2005, I took Cornelius with me when I visited my mom. Cornelius was a cat who would not try and run away, and would even walk along with you. Here, he is really enjoying walking around in the flower bed. I don't know why, but in the fall, I become fascinated with spring, and in the spring I become fascinated with fall.

Nice picture of Norton. I really like the rich colours that the backlighting and evening time of day created.

Sunday September 22, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I was in the sunroom with the cats, and I set the camera down on the table and just held down the button to take pictures. I had the camera set to keep taking pictures at the slowest rate it can be set at, so the camera was going, "click", "click", "click", .... which fascinated Avensby.

Lets just call this picture, "Nine cats on my bed" and leave it at that.

On the September 11 picture of the day, I said Margarita has unusual eyes. I've said that a few times on this site. Here is yet another example of Margarita and her eyes. I find her endlessly interesting to study. Now that I think about it, I guess I should say she has an unusual look in her eyes, as there is nothing different about her physical eyes. She is on my lap here as is often the case. Such a sweet but mysterious cat.

Cornelius and Felemur together on an antique rocking chair. I was looking for a different picture, saw this, and was surprised. I don't remember this picture. As I've said before, I have somewhere between 60-70,000 pictures of my cats I've taken since the year 2000, but usually there is some familiarity when I see them again. Not with this one. This really was a surprise.

If you know cats, you know that most cats wake up fully ready to go - unlike most humans that are very groggy when they wake. Cornelius was an exception to that. If he was sleeping for a long while, when he woke, he was very groggy for a few of minutes. In this picture Cornelius had just woken up and stood up when I took it. I wanted to capture his very groggy look, and though it took a while to get one that worked out, this picture shows Cornelius is feeling what a lot of us feel in the morning.

Monday September 16, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Even though this picture of Andi was taken through a screen with a very poor quality camera, it actually came out well enough that it really captures Andi's pretty light green eyes.

Cornelius on my coat on a cement deck. It was cool but sunny that day, so I put my coat down for Cornelius to lie on while I worked in the yard.

For the September 08 Picture of the Day I showed a mother-daughter picture with Mumma-Puma and her daughter Andi. This is another picture of them showing how close they were.

Avensby in her beloved asperagus box. Even though she is too big for it, she manages to squeeze herself in - even if some of her, like her tail in this case, doesn't all quite get in.

Margarita enjoying the sun on a window shelf. I've said it before on this site, Margarita has unusual eyes. She also has a unique personality. She really likes me, and spends any time I'm sitting down on my lap. However, she is not keen on cats or other people. She has super short hair. Margarita was a 2 year old feral cat when found, and I wasn't sure if she would ever settle into being a "house cat". It took about 3-4 years for her to adjust to the human/other cat world. A long time, but it was worth it because we are very close now. Something that intrigues me about Margarita is the way she moves. She moves in bursts, then freezes in place, then moves in a burst again. When she does move, quite often it is a trot with her head and tail low and even keeps her body low. Not only that, she trots in a zig-zag path. Very rarely does she move in a straight line. As a cat person, I would love to understand her better. My guess, and it's only a real guess, is that Margarita lives by ancient feline programming and is not changed by domestication. I personally take it as a major compliment that she really likes me, as that is an exception to her instinctive rule of never trusting anyone or anything. However, just to contradict all that I have just said, when Margarita is at the vet, she is very calm & collected and actually cooperative. Like I said, I would love to get into her mind and understand her better.

Dexter watching me carefully as I take a picture of him in the basket on the top of the cat tree. Dexter is a super sweet cat, but often people who meet him are a bit nervous of him, they tell me, because of the look in his eyes and his larger than ususal size. Actually, his body is only a little bit bigger than normal for a male cat, but his legs are longer than ususal in proportion to his body, so he stands tall making him look big. I've wondered if there is Siamese in him because I've seen some Siamese cats that have long legs. He also has that restless Siamese personality, and is VERY talkative - sometimes non-stop for a VERY long time, and VERY loudly. He has a few sounds he makes regularly, but the one I get the biggest kick out of is what I call his two syllable meow. Phonetically, it is: "Maaaa-Rowwww". The "Rowwww" part of it is a higher note than the "Maaaa" part. Dexter is very social, and as soon as someone comes over, he goes to them, meows and even will stand on his back legs putting his front legs on the person's legs to get as close a look as he can. Dexter also has the habit of leaping up onto my shoulder when I walk by - but - he can do this from the ground to my shoulder in one clear jump, which just amazes me because I'm 6 feet tall. He is 11 years old - an age when most of my cats slow down, but not Dexter.

Avensby and Elly-May. Avensby is sunning herself under a light I set up for that purpose. It is used a lot in the winter months. Elly-May is actually a big cat with thick fur making her look even bigger. Avensby is a small cat.

Mother and daughter. Mumma-Puma on the left (mom) and Andi on the right (daughter) They are on a chair right beside an end table with an incandecent light. These two were very close when Mumma-Puma was alive. You can't tell from this picture, but their markings were almost identical except where Andi was black, Mumma-Puma was multi-coloured. Mumma-Puma was like a multi-coloured tuxedo cat. I used to call her a "Cali-tuxe-tab". She was a calico with a tuxedo pattern and some of the calico had tabby stripes. Calico tuxedo tabby, or Cali-tuxe-tab for short. When Andi was young, she and Mumma-Puma did not get along. But as the years passed they became very close. Their personalities were nearly identical. This is not true of the other 4 kittens from the same litter. Mumma is 11 here, and Andi is 7.

I came home after being away for a few hours, and sat down in my zero-gravity chair. Within a moment, I had 3 cats on my lap. I held the camera over me and took this picture. Patty (the silver cat) is normal sized for a female cat. Margarita (tuxedo) and Fiona (multi-coloured) are smaller than ususal, especially my tiny Fiona.

A nice picture of Felemur (Lynx Point Siamese) and Cornelius (Tuxedo). There is nothing remarkable about this picture other than I remember taking it. It was June 2005, and I remember walking by the bedroom and seeing this, getting the camera and taking the picture. I don't know why I remember taking this one, whereas most of them I don't actually remember taking the picture. It is not really clear here, but if you look closely you can see Cornelius on his left front paw had the black from his leg running down between his toes. Only his toes were white, which I thought looked really cute.

This is Daisy. By a long shot, this is the fluffiest cat I've ever had, and probably seen. She is the sister of Elly-May featured in the September 03 picture below. She is also the sister of Andi, Chessie and Leon who are in the September 01 picture. Leon is the orange tabby, Andi the tuxedo that is standing with her tail up, Chessie is in front of Andi with her back to the camera. They are siblings from the same litter. Their mom is the calico slepping on the pillow by the window right over Andi's head. Daisy's fur is well over 4 inches on her body. She is sleeping in my front window with her head against the glass.

Avensby intently watching another cat play with a section of rope on the floor. I like to capture a moment when they are focused elsewhere so you get their natural expressions in the picture.

A nice picture of Elly-May showing her beautiful colours and deep, rich coat. She is a true doll of a cat. Kind, friendly, and all good. She is as close to a perfect cat you can imagine. She is 2 months from being 11 years old here. She was one of the 5 kittens that came with the mom barn cat from the deep woods of central Ontario that I adopted after the barn they lived in burned down in November of 2008.

Avensby when she was 4 months old. Pretty cute as far as I'm concerned. A real shame I only had a very poor quality camera at this time. Because the quality of the picture is so bad, I hesitated using it, but honestly, she is so cute here, I think the quality is forgivable.

Sunday September 01, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I thought I'd start off the new month with a fun picture. When looking back on August, I noticed there was a lot of sad stuff about cats passing. So here we have six cats in the sunroom just enjoying a beautiful day. Have a great September.
