Thursday October 31, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Happy Halloween! OK, I know I'm stretching it here, but it is an orange cat, and his cat cave is shapped (sort of) like a pumpkin, so this is Halloween-ish. This is Boscoe, and he lives at my vet's clinic. This was taken when I was picking up my cat Andi from an emergency visit on Monday.

Tuesday October 29, 2019 Pic of the Day.
My cat Andi had to be taken for an emergency visit to the vet yesterday (Monday) morning. Things are looking up, but the whole day I was in a bad state. During the day, I kept thinking of this picture of Andi. This was taken shortly before midnight on December 31, 2011, and I had won the toy cow at a New Years party with friends playing a game. I brought the toy home, and Andi was completely taken by it, and it became hers. I wish I knew what happened to it. Andi was just a little over 3 years old here, and now she is over 11. Her health issue is the exact same problem her mom had when her mom was 11. Its hard to watch someone you love so much get old in front of you, and there is nothing you can do.

Avensby is on my lap, and I'm sitting cross-legged on the floor. Andi is in the background. Picture is grainy as it was low light, and I did not want to use the flash and upset Avensby.

Friday October 25, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I was trying to take a close-up face picture of Cornelius, and when I clicked the picture, he moved - like cats most often do. Most of the time, these pictures are just a blur, but this time it just happened to capture an interesting angle, and to me, a good picture capturing the look of curiosity in a cat's face. My hand is like that because I was giving Cornelius scratches under the chin and on the neck to keep him from leaving while I was taking the picture. This picture is from 2003, so I've forgotten what it was that grabbed Cornelius' attention.

Thursday October 24, 2019 Pic of the Day.
A happy Dexter in his blueberry box - yes, that is actually Dexter's happy face. Any cat person knows that cats love carboard boxes. It used to be easy to get boxes from the grocery stores, but now they don't put them out front for customers to use. An unintended consequence is that cats all over are deprived of the fun of boxes. I actually will order from Amazon instead of buying locally if the price is the same just to get the box the items are shipped in, and give the box to the cats.

Tuesday October 22, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I came into a room, and looked out the window to the sunroom to see if any cats were out there, and this is what I saw. Instead of looking out of the sunroom windows, they were watching inside - I guess waiting for me.

Monday October 21, 2019 Pic of the Day.
A very proud mom cat with 3 of her 5 kittens from the litter. Mumma-Puma, the mom, is the one at the back, Elly-May is the kitten on the left, Andi is the tuxedo kitten, and the orange tabby is Leon. The kittens are a little over 4 months old here, and Mumma-Puma is about 4 to 4 1/2 years old.

I was taking pictures of Margarita in the sunlight, and this was one of them. This is such a silly picture.

Saturday October 19, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I've often wondered if cats can look at different things with each eye a the same time. It's my understanding that animals such as horses can see different things with each eye for safety when grazing. But that is not what I understand for carnavores like cats. This picture seems to indicate otherwise. Avensby is looking right into the camera with her left eye, while her right eye seems to be looking elswhere. Avensby has very good sight, and will notice the smallest of bug far away faster than the other cats most of the time, so I'm sure its not to do with being unable to coordinate her left and right eyes. Maybe it's just an optical illusion created by the camera.

Friday October 18, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I don't have a bed any more, as one of my cats has the very bad habit of peeing on anything that is cloth - Dexter. I don't have any cloth covered furniture left, and cannot leave clothes or towels out. Because of not having a bed, I sleep on some blankets on the floor that I roll up and put away each morning. When I roll out the bedding in the evening just before I go to sleep, the cats gather for the night. This picture is from last night just before I turned the lights off. I was taking the picture over my head, and could not see to set it up well. Still, it shows 7 cats gathered with me. At the bottom of the picture you can see my legs - I'm sitting cross-legged in black track pants. On my lap is Fiona, tucked close into my right leg you can just see Elly-May's head. In front of my legs is Andi. Half under the covers is Avensby. Beside to the right of Avensby is Norton. The far end of the bedding is Dexter, and on the table is Patty.

Thursday October 17, 2019 Pic of the Day.
It is that time of year when the weather gets cool and damp where I live. It is also getting dark early in the evenings and stays dark into the early morning. There is something undeniable about how cozy a wood fire is on cool, damp, dark days. Leon the 4 month old orange tabby kitten on the chair arm, and Felemur the nearly 20 year old Lynx Point Siamese right in front of the woodstove are taking full advantage of the warmth.

I had moved the cat tunnel to vacuum where it was, and before I got the vacuum, this happened. I got a laugh out of the two tails sticking out from the tunnel.

I put the Halloween cat in the window right in Daisy's favourite window place. When she came up into the window after eating, she saw another cat had taken her spot.

Sunday October 13, 2019 Pic of the Day.
On October 10 & 11 picture of the day, I showed pictures of the kittens Elly-May and the tabby kitten Chessie. They were sisters from the same litter. In this picture Elly-May is the kitten at the back, another sister from the same litter, Daisy at the left-front and the mom cat at the right-front whose name is Mumma-Puma.

Saturday October 12, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Avensby under the light I set up for the cats to sun themselves when there is no sun. A 60 watt incandescent bulb is perfect for this, and the cats love it.

Friday October 11, 2019 Pic of the Day.
This picture follows the theme of yesterday. This is the kitten Chessie on a step on a log cabin wall. I made the steps for the cats to get to the loft, but instead of using them as steps, most of the time they would use the steps as places to sleep - in fact, I used to refer to them as "cat display shelves". Chessie looks like a little doll here. I've been thinking of her a lot lately.

Thursday October 10, 2019 Pic of the Day.
When I lived in a genuine settler's log cabin in a remote area, my only source of heat was wood. I would bring in a wagon full of wood at a time and park it in the back room, taking the wood to the stove area when needed. One day when I went to get wood, I found 2 of my kittens (Chessie the tabby & Elly-May) sleeping in the wood wagon. They were 4 months old here. Chessie passed away from cancer in January of 2018, but I still have Elly-May. You can see Elly-May from very recently in the Tuesday, October 08 picture of the day. I have been missing Chessie recently, and was looking at pictures of her when I found this one.

Tuesday October 01, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Leon (orange tabby) and his sister Andi (tuxedo) in a wicker bassinet from 1961. I was given the wicker bassinet when nobody else in the family wanted it, and thought the cats would love it. They did, but unfortunately they started to chew on it, and as it was in perfect shape when I got it, I decided to put it away. This was the only time it was used since my cousin used it when she was a baby in 1961!
