Cornelius looking at himself in the mirror above the bathtub.

Tuesday July 30, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Avensby looking deeply into the camera lens. She is not used to seeing the camera I used for this picture. I think she looks great here.

This captures the real Dexter quite well. He has a very direct, bold personality.

Sunday July 28, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Andi on my lap. Andi is such a bright, alert cat. I like the way this picture is backlit highlighting Andi's whiskers.

Cornelius and I enjoying the fire on a cold Saint Patrick's Day in 2007. You can just see the arm of the chair I was sitting in facing Cornelius. He and I were living in a genuine settler's Cedar Log cabin in the woods of Central Ontario Canada which was made by Scottish immigrants right around 1900. We had no hot water - in fact no running water and only this stove for heat and cooking. Despite the difficulties, I still remember wonderful moments like this.

Just took this picture of Avensby. This was taken with my phone camera. This is one of those pictures I wish I had taken with my good camera. Still, love this picture of her. Hmm, I think I need to clean that window.

Thursday July 25, 2019 Pic of the Day.
Fiona in one of the baskets on the cat tree I made. I think Fiona is so cute in a kittenish way even though she is 9 years old this fall.

Patty cat on my lap. Nice side view of her.

Tuesday July 23, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I was just poking around pictures from early 2007 looking for a nice picture of Cornelius, and I ran across this picture. I had completely forgotten that Cornelius would sometimes sit like this. I also like how this captures the persona Cornelius had which could intimidate people who didn't know him as he was a very large cat who always seemed like he was fully in charge. Sometimes it felt like he could look right inside you and know you better than you know yourself. I say it so often, but Cornelius was the most remarkable cat I've ever met.

I did not notice this before. Look at this picture, then look at yesterday's picture. This one was taken on July 24, 2018, whereas yesterday's picture was taken on July 23, 2018. It's the same group of cats (I have far more than you see here), and look where each one is. Almost the same postions for the same cats! The only difference is that Mumma-Puma (calico) is now beside her son Leon (orange tabby) on the wood table instead of her being on the glass-top table.

I took this picture on July 23, 2018. Since 2 of the cats have now passed on (Leon the orange tabby and his mom right behind him), it is interesting to look at pictures like this. There has been a real change from last year to this year. Last year and the years before, the cats always went outside into the sunroom every chance they could. This year, they tend to stay in more. It could be they are older, it could be that because Leon was everyone's friend and they followed where he went - and he loved the sunroom, or maybe the weather hasn't been as nice as it was last year, or it could be a combination of all. This picture is interesing to me personally because I remember when I took this picture thinking to myself that moments like this are special, and will be worth looking back on in the future, and here we are - one year into the future.
So, from the left: Elly-May, Leon, Mumma-Puma, Norton, Avensby & Andi. Elly-May, Leon & Andi are siblings from the same litter that Mumma-Puma had in September of 2008. There are 2 other siblings from that litter not in this picture.
I should mention, this picture was taken at an angle though the glass of a door, so the image is a bit dull looking. I was trying to not be noticed when I took this, but you can see how well I failed at that!

Patty cat in the sunroom. I took this picture later the same day as yesterday's picture of Leon. Patty is very hard to get a good picture of even though she is a very beautiful cat.

A picture of Leon through the glass in the sunroom. This picture was taken exactly 1 year ago. I left the picture uncropped just to show the context - even with my laundry hanging on the clothes line refecting in the glass. Leon has been gone 11 months now, and I quite miss him. We were very close, and there is a hollow spot in my life that he used to fill. I like looking at this picture and others like it, and I'm so very happy I took the time to take these pictures, but it is also very hard to look at them. Norton is right behind Leon, and in fact, his huge tail is laying over Leon's back. They were very close, and used to hang out.

Cute picture of Dexter wondering what I'm doing with the camera. He is on a window ledge, and I'm right against the wall trying to take his picture. The reason I tried to get the picture from this angle was the sun was coming right in the window and the other pictures I took didn't work. Dexter was wondering what I was doing with the camera from all the different angles, and this picture captures his naturally curious persona.

Getting a new digital camera back in early 2003 was very exciting for me. It was a Canon PowerShot S230 Digital ELPH. It cost me $600 plus tax in Canadian dollars which was a huge amount of money to spend on a camera in 2003.
This was the first real picture I took with the camera - I did take a couple of shots of the floor by accident when setting it up. This isn't bad for a first shot, and Cornelius looks like he is having fun. Cornelius had breathing problems, and keeping the temperature of the house around 60 F. (about 15 or 16 C.) and providing him with a lamp with a 60 watt incandescent bulb to keep him warm really did seem to help.

These two get along so well. I think their colours look great together. They are my only male cats I have left, and they are very different ages and personalities, but they are quite compatible. Dexter (age 11) is the tuxedo, and Norton (age 4) is the long-haired tabby.

I was visiting friends I hadn't seen for a while, and one of them had a cat I hadn't met yet. It was this beautiful tuxedo cat named Octavia. Since she had only just met me, she wasn't sure if I was trustworthy, so it took a few tries to get her picture. Finally I got this one of her taking a good look at me. I think she approved of me, as a couple of minutes later she let me pat her. I'm always happy to make a new cat friend.

One day I could not find Cornelius. Knowing he had a knack for hiding, I looked around for a while and then I saw him. He was in this wood toolbox that I had emptied to clean. Of course, being me, I had to take a picture.

The cat closest to us in this picture is Cornelius, and the one in behind is Felemur. Not a very high quality photograph, but this picture gives me a cozy feeling.

In front is Elly-May, in behind her sister Andi. It's hard to get a picture showing the length of Elly-May's fur, but this picture does the trick. It is easy to see her how long her fur is on her sides. It is over 4 inches. What I find interesting with Elly-May is that she has what I call a half-mane. It is only on the sides & underside of her neck, and the band is quite narrow, but the fur on that band is very long. You can see it very well in this picture do to the lighting. I'm sure this is not unique, and I've seen many cats with manes, but for me, Elly-May is the first cat I've seen with a half-mane. By the way, the area of fur between her sides and where this mane is (there is a big orange spot there in the centre of it), the fur is the same length as a short haired cat. I've never cut Elly-May's fur, so this is the natural way it is. It should also be noted, she keeps her fur like this, and cleans it meticulously - I've never found a knot in her coat even though the hair is long.

I've said before that Margarita is a very hard cat to get a picture of. She is squirmy, and moves in quick bursts. She is shy, and will look away when the camera comes out. She was watching something outside when I took this shot. At first when I saw this picture, I was disappointed, because it is not a flattering picture of her at all. But after a moment it started to make me laugh - it really looks like a police mug shot after an arrest.

If you have an Android smart phone, you are probably familiar with getting notifications to look back one year to the day of the photos you took with your phone. I got one of those notifications, and one of the pictures was of the day I brought home a carboard concrete forming tube for the cats. I had forgotten about this picture. Avensby in the tube looking very cute, Norton showing off his fantastic tail right in front of the camera, Dexter in behind Norton's tail and Elly-May keeping an eye on Dexter who she does not trust, and with good reason.

Avensby is one of my favourite cats to take pictures of. I think she revels in the attention. She has no fear of cameras, as they have been part of her life since she was 2 months old. She doesn't change her activity or expression when a camera is pointed at her close up. This makes for me being able to take pictures that capture her in natural states of mind like this picture showing her content and contemplative. Also, Avensby is calm and collected, and though playful, is quite still when she is resting.

Now that is a big yawn. I love it when I'm taking pictures and I get an oddball picture like this. Nice chompers by the way.

I was in the sunroom in the evening watching an archaeology TV show called "Time Team" on my phone, when Avensby came by and layed down. I (of course) had my good camera with me and snapped this shot. I think it worked out not too bad.

One of the nice things about summer for me is being able to sit in the sunroom in the evening with my good camera and just relax with the cats. When they are relaxed and just enjoying the sounds, smells and creatures outside, I'm able to take pictures of the cats that show them in their normal state. So very often with pictures of cats, they know something is up so you can't get right in up close to take candid shots. Luckily for me, the cats are so used to cameras that they barely notice them or not at all.
This is Elly-May in the foreground with her sister Andi in the background. Elly-May and Andi are just around 2 months away from being 11 years old.

I took this picture just the other day. I was taking pictures of Avensby when Dexter walked by as I was just snapping the shot. What we have here is a Tuxedo cat picture with a Tuxedo cat background. Odd shot.

Since I was looking at pictures from October 7, 2006, I thought I would give one more. Yesterday's picture is of Cornelius on the beach that day, this one is of Cornelius on the dock watching minnows in the water. This picture has a nice summer-by-the-lake feel. When I see this, I'm right back there even though nearly 13 years have passed. Also, this is a nice picture for July 4 for those in America enjoying a day off.

Today is the 1 year anniversary of TuxedoCatJunction. I published the first pages of the site on July 3, 2018. I got the idea for the site while I was doing dishes on July 1, 2018. It took me 2 full days of designing and coding the site before it went live on July 3.
The first picture of the day on July 3, 2018 was a picture of Cornelius on the docks at Aylen Lake Ontario. Cornelius is the most remarkable cat I have ever met, and this site was made in his honour. Cornelius had the best day of his life that October 7, 2006 day, so it is appropriate the first picture of the day, the 1 year anniversary picture, and the top picture on the Homepage are of him that day. There were a couple of other days at Aylen Lake that were also very nice, but that day stands out. The weather was perfect, Cornelius seemed to be in the best health he had been since he was found August 15, 2002 and he just loved time on the beach and the docks. We spent the morning on the beach and docks, came back to the cottage around noon, ate lunch, and Cornelius fell asleep in a chair in the sun inside the cottage.

I was looking at pictures I took with my first digital camera. I got it early in 2000. Digital cameras were fairly new then, and this one could only take 640 X 480 pictures. Still, at the time it seemed fantastic to me as the monitor I had with my computer was also 640 X 480, so the picture filled the whole screen! Right away I started taking lots of pictures of my cats.
This picture is of my cats Felemur (Colour Point Siamese) and Xxaque (white cat). Xxaque is pronounced "Zak" with extra Z sound at the beginning like you were saying "Zzzzak", and Felemur is pronounced "Fah-lee-mer". These 2 were great friends and loved to sleep on a nest I made for them on the washing machine. They could see out the window from this spot. Felemur lived to within a couple of months of being 20, and Xxaque lived to 17. Felemur has been gone since 2009, and Xxaque has been gone since 2004. I got the idea of looking way back because I mentioned with yesterday's picture that Avensby was my most recent cat and I had just taken that picture.

Monday July 01, 2019 Pic of the Day.
I took this picture of Avensby a couple of days ago. It has been 3 years since I took her home as a 2 month old kitten. She was one kitten in 2 large litters born in a neighbor's shed to 2 feral mom cats. I did not want another cat as I had too many already, but for some reason I took her and went against my own better reasoning. I'm very glad I did take her. New month, picture of my newest cat.
