December 31, 2018 Pic of the Day.
Often people look back on the last day of the year. This picture is of Cornelius, the cat that is the reason for this site. This is one of the oldest pictures I have of him. Lucky shot really. It was a very cold winter day, and I came into the room and saw him enjoying the sun coming through the window. I just grabbed the camera, and took this picture. For some reason, this picture is etched in my mind when I think of him.

I was looking through my pictures to find a picture of Mumma cat, and ran into this one. I just had to make it the picture of the day.

December 29, 2018 Pic of the Day.
Continuing the theme from the past couple of days, this is Mumma cat with three of her five kittens on the couch in front of the wood stove. This is about six weeks after yesterday's picture. By this time, Mumma and the kittens were loving the indoor life. Mumma was very thin when I first found her (see December 26 picture), but by now she was a nice weight and the kittens were growing very fast.

December 28, 2018 Pic of the Day.
Continuing the theme from the past couple of days, this is Mumma cat with her five kittens after I was able to catch them all, which was not easy. Where you see them here, they are inside, but there is a small opening right behind the kitten in the upper right of the picture they can use to go outside into a large covered pen. I was trying to slowly get them used to the idea of living inside, as they were barn cats. Sadly, I used the flash for this picture, but I still really like this one.

Following from yesterday's pic of the day, this is the garden cart that I made into a home for Mumma Puma cat and her 5 kittens. They only lived in this until I was able to catch all the kittens one day - not easy. If you look carefully, you can see one kitten - Leon - peeking out from the edge of the far wood pile.

December 26, 2018 Pic of the Day.
One of the first couple of pictures I have of Mumma cat taken on the day I gave her and her kittens a home after the barn they lived in burned down. I was not able to catch the kittens until a while later, so I made a makeshift home for them and Mumma cat in a garden wagen with boxes and blankets and a work light for heat. The vet told me she was at least 4 years old when I took her in for a check-up about 2 weeks after this picture was taken. She was so scared to be in my truck and a cat carrier, she threw up and pooped herself on the way there. Mumma just passed away on December 24 - Christmas eve day. She was a great friend and will always be with me in my heart and thoughts. Over the next few days, I will post pictures of her that are chronological. I still have three of her kittens from the time I took her in. Two of her kittens predeceased her this year. There are three more pictures of her this month as Pic of the day pictures on December 17, 13 & 2.

Christmas Eve 2018. Soon, Santa will be delivering all his toys, pulled of course, by Tuxedo Cats. Merry Christmas to one and all, and to all a good night.

December 23, 2018 Pic of the Day.
I was looking through pictures to post that were Christmas related, but just happened to see this one, and it brought back some memories of a nice time with Cornelius, so I decided to make it the pic of the day.

Taken Christmas day 2003 while visiting a friend. This cat is Betty. I was her cat sitter many, many times and think of her as family. Very nice, smart cat.

Nice close up shot of Patty. She is an Abyssinian & Tabby cross from what I am told - I'm not 100% sure, as she was a foundling and I'm not a cat breed expert. She has ticked fur. Her face colouring reminds me of a Grey Wolf.

Bittersweet picture. Mumma cat (14 years old), on the left, is not feeling well here, and had just come back from the vet about 3 hours earlier. All her daughters were sticking close to her. It was very clear they knew she was not feeling well. This daughter on the right, Elly-May (10 years old), stayed right beside her mom all through the night.

One of my nicknames for this one is "Ferret Girl" because she is long and very thin like a ferret, and also because she moves like one. She oscillates between being still and quick bursts of movement. She also has a different look in her eyes than most cats - see the October 10, 2018 Pic of the day for a picture and explanation of that.

December 13, 2018 Pic of the Day.
I've mentioned before I really like the mother & child type cat pictures. Mom cat on left, daughter on right. Mom is 11 here, daughter Andi is 7. Go down the page to the December 11 picture, and see the mom on a chair and this daughter in a basket in 2008. Also, the December 2nd picture shows this pair 3 years earlier than this picture.

Sitting on a shelf under stairs. Nice shot, too bad about having to use the flash. The long haired one on the right is only about 7 1/2 months old here.

December 9, 2018 Pic of the Day.
In December of 2008, I took in a mom cat and her 5 kittens after the barn they lived in burned down. I find it hard to beleive that was 10 years ago now. There are 4 of the 5 kittens in this picture. Mom and the other kitten are in the outside part of the enclosure I had made. They could come in through a hole in the wall to this pen. I was trying to get them used to the idea of an inside life.

This is Lulu again. Read about her in yesterday's picture of the day caption.

December 7, 2018 Pic of the Day.
This is Lulu. She has quite a story. When she was a kitten, she lost her right back leg in a farm accident. The farmer took her to a local vet who was able to save her. A friend of mine adopted her from the vet. Lulu is happy now with a great life, which includes time on a deck overlooking Lake Huron from a beach front cottage on Ontario's "west coast". She is an indoor cat with supervised exceptions.

This two level end table is very popular with the cats when the lamps are on. See picture from yesterday as well.

This guy is so photogenic. All you have to do is take his picture. As long as its in focus, it almost always looks great. That is so unusual when taking pictures of cats in my experience.

December 2, 2018 Pic of the Day.
I really like the "mother & child" cat pictures. The mom is the calico, and the daughter is the tuxedo cat. Mom is 8 here and the daughter is 4.

It's December! This is a picture of one of my neighbor's front yard Christmas display. Look closely, there is a tuxedo cat in this picture on the mailbox - see the close-up detail below.
